State of Massachusetts Behavioral Direct Care Supervisor - Emergency Stabilization Program in Wrentham, Massachusetts

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is searching for an enthusiastic, compassionate, reliable individual with a strong work ethic to fill a Behavioral Direct Care Supervisor - Emergency Stabilization Program (Developmental Service Worker III)position to be assigned to the Emergency Stabilization Program (ESP) within the Southeast region at the Wrentham Developmental Center. The Behavioral Supervisor coordinates and oversees the resident programs with regards to active treatment and ensures proper implementation of habilitative and behavioral programs. This posting requires interested candidates including current employees in the same title to go through the interview process as this position requires specialized training. Employees applying for this assignment will be required to successfully complete the Proactive Approaches to Behavioral Challenges (PABC) training within 6 months. Staff that is unable to complete the training will be ineligible for the assignment. All staff working in the ESP Unit, upon its opening will receive a differential of $3.25 for each hour worked. _Job Responsibilities_: (The duties and responsibilities stated are general summary and not all inclusive.) * Will provide hands on support to individuals and will be assigned as necessary in direct support coverage. * Provide daily supervision and training to Developmental Service Worker II (DSW2) staff to ensure that they are acting as advocates for the individuals and demonstrate respect and positive regard for individuals with developmental disabilities. * Oversee the health and safety of the individuals, adhere to rules and regulations, as well as communicate with appropriate medical and health care providers regarding individual’s health concerns, as the shift supervisor. * Complete daily reports and collect information necessary to document incidents that occur during the shift. * Manage all aspects of the Unit Office in the absence of the DSW IV and respond to both operational problems within the unit and to resident behavioral episodes. * Assign staff work schedules, as a supervisor, and complete DSW II evaluations; monitor the performance of DSW staff in program implementation. * Ensure that Department policies, procedures, and services are adhered to throughout the tour of duty. _Special Requirements:_ Employees applying for this assignment will be required to successfully complete the Proactive Approaches to Behavioral Challenges (PABC) within 6 months to have this position. Staff that is unable to complete the training will be ineligible for the assignment. The selected candidate must acquire and maintain PABC Certified, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid (FA) certifications. This position is designated as an "EMERGENCY" position in the Department of Developmental Services Emergency Plan. This means that whenever the Governor declares that the Commonwealth is in a state of emergency, the selected candidate will be required to report to work. * The program operates 24-hours/7 days a week. Candidates must be flexible in their work schedule. The Department requires employees in this position to be able to perform *Mandatory Overtime when circumstances dictate the need. _Preferred Qualifications_: * PABC Certified and/or PABC trainer * Experience working with challenging behaviors. * Working knowledge of PBS and how to implement across all settings. * Capacity to remain calm in a high stress environment. * Excellent time management and communication skills. * Develop and maintain a respectful, caring, tolerant, ethical, and empowering relationship with staff and residents. * Ability to relate to others in a professional and appropriate manner ensuring proper communication and support. * Interface appropriately with other staff and supervisors. * Willingness to help debrief staff after stressful situation occur. * Skilled in navigating through Microsoft operating systems. * Provide leadership and direction to direct care staff and effectively respond to emerging situations. * Capability to assist/lift individuals with physical disabilities and/or limited mobility. * Ability to transcribe, read and comprehend the English language. * Competent to help develop, cultivate, and nurture a team atmosphere. _Schedule Information:_ Full-time – 40-hour weekly position Sunday through Thursday 11:00 pm to 7:00 am Days off – Friday and Saturday _About the Department of Developmental Services:_ The mission of the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is to create innovative and genuine opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder to participate fully and contribute meaningfully to their communities as valued members.
