Community Healthlink Relief Residential Counselor in Worcester, Massachusetts

Community Healthlink (CHL) is looking for a Relief (0-20 hrs/wk) Residential Counselor in Worcester, MA.

PASSages is an intensive, short-term (2-4 week), inpatient treatment program for men and women 18 and older who suffer from substance use disorders but do not require detox. The program provides individual counseling sessions and comprehensive case management services to each client along with at least seven treatment groups per day, run by all team members. PASSages is an exciting, dynamic environment in which all members of the multidisciplinary team work together to ensure the best outcomes for our clients. As a Residential Counselor, you will have the opportunity to make an impact by working directly with clients to help them overcome their addictions, including by providing real-time feedback and support, being available to clients when they have questions or concerns, ensuring that clients get their prescribed medications, and running groups

If you are looking to give back to the community and help others, this relief residential counselor position maybe the one for you. A relief residential counselor can work 0-20 hours a week depending on the program’s need. In this flexible position, there are no set shifts, and staff are scheduled or called as needed to cover empty shifts. This gives you the opportunity to help others without the commitment.

  • Assist with the client admission process by completing all documentation accurately, searching client belongings, and orienting new clients to the unit and to the CHL/PASSages rules.

  • Monitor and answer the unit cell phone when required.

  • Routinely monitor client location and condition during all shifts.

  • Direct clients to assigned groups and meal times.

  • Wake clients in a respectful manner every morning.

  • RC’s routinely check on the general condition of the unit and intervene when necessary.

  • Respectfully address any problematic client behaviors that you witness.

  • Articulate risk of relapse to clients considering leaving against clinical advice and attempt to resolve their “reasons for leaving."

  • Facilitate groups and/or provide support to staff facilitating.

  • To facilitate the continuous provision of safe and high-quality care, the Residential Counselor documents relevant information onto appropriate logs and boards, participates in daily team huddles, notifies the supervisor of any identified problem or deficiency on the unit, and answers the telephone in a professional manner.

  • Maintain unit supplies (linen, personal hygiene articles, etc.).

  • Assist in creating a safe therapeutic milieu by fostering a culture of recovery through interaction with PASSages clients.

  • Demonstrate appropriate and respectful interactions with clients and the community as outlined in agency ethical policies.

  • Effectively foster client compliance with program expectations while delivering culturally sensitive treatment and care.

  • Demonstrate proficiency in reading, writing, and computer skills necessary to complete basic paperwork and accurate documentation.

  • Demonstrate effective communication skills in dealing with clients, visitors, and other members of the health care team.

  • Respects diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.

  • HSD/GED/HiSet required; college coursework, associate degree or bachelor degree preferred

  • Knowledge of the Massachusetts continuum of care for substance abuse

  • Experience in social services, the substance abuse field and/or working with program's population preferred

  • Prefer candidates with experience in the substance abuse field

  • CADAC/ LDAC Preferred

  • Good communication and time management

  • All bilingual candidates are strongly encouraged to apply
