WSP USA Associate Consultant- Structural Engineer in Worcester, Massachusetts

This Opportunity

WSP is currently initiating a search for a Structural Engineer for our Boston, MA office. Become a part of our Transportation Structural Team and contribute to a dynamic organization dedicated to fulfilling client objectives and overcoming their challenges. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience in structural engineering, with a focus on highway bridges, rail/transit structures, walls, and other transportation-related facilities

In this role, you'll offer crucial support to technical staff, engineers, and project managers involved in due diligence, remediation, improvement, and construction of infrastructure projects across both public and private sectors. Your responsibilities span tasks from research and design to feasibility assessment, concept development and preliminary and final design of load-bearing structures like buildings, bridges, roadways, and mechanical structures, as well as construction engineering support services.

Collaborating closely with a team of engineers, you will play a pivotal role in various aspects of structural design and analysis. Your contribution will be instrumental in ensuring that all tasks and projects adhere to industry standards for design, safety, structural soundness, and functionality. Moreover, you'll generate accurate and concise reports and documentation related to assigned installations and construction specifications.

Your Impact

  • Perform professional structural engineering work and Bridge Design tasks as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

  • Assist in the preparation of contract drawings and specifications.

  • Preparation of design calculations for medium and long span bridge replacement projects.

  • Strong knowledge with structural analysis software and CADD (AutoCAD and/or Microstation).

  • Perform load rating analysis and evaluation of existing structures for repairs/retrofits.

  • Work as an individual or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, architects, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work, assist with laying out installations, establishing reference points/elevations/grades to guide construction, selecting appropriate materials to ensure durability, calculating costs and quantities of material/equipment/labor, and ensuring project work conforms with specifications, permit applications, compliance documentation, and regulatory and technical analysis memos.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or closely related discipline. An advanced degree is desirable.

  • 2+ years of relevant post education experience in a related engineering discipline and prior structural or civil design experience.

  • Familiarity with relevant structural and civil construction laws, codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

  • Knowledge of structural engineering principles, practices, processes, and the application to project work-related issues. Design/build experience is a plus.

  • Proficiency in applicable national standards such as AASHTO.

  • Proficiency with MassDOT, MBTA, ConnDOT, MaineDOT, RIDOT, VTrans and/or NHDOT standards standards, specifications and procedures.

  • Hands on experience with structural analysis software and CADD (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation).

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

  • Strong technical writing, analytical and communication skills.Detail-oriented with an emphasis on quality work products.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Engineer-in-Training Certification.

  • Prior relevant design experience.

  • A member of and/or active participation in local professional practice organizations#LI-CC1
