Blaire House of Worcester 2nd Shift Helping Hands Assistant in Worcester, Massachusetts

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Ambulate, position, transfer, and turn residents at a minimum of fifty (50) pounds, frequently. Turn, crouch, kneel, stoop, bend below waist, and reach above shoulder height, frequently. Climb stairs frequently. Walk, sit and stand frequently. Lift and/or carry objects at a minimum of fifty (50) pounds, frequently. Use sight and auditory senses. Possess good finger and hand dexterity. Responsibilities \ Care for and assist residents in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort and within limits defined by delegated tasks. \ Assist, and/or provide resident and unit support including but not limited to: sanitizing resident hands prior to meals, passing and set up of meal trays once checked by the nurse, making beds, denture care, combing resident hair, auditing for placement of adaptive devices such as eyeglasses, dentures, hand rolls, booties, etc., and notifying the nurse of audit results, cleaning shower and utility rooms, ensuring call lights are in reach of residents, and straightening closets. \ Possess and demonstrate ability to respond to resident call lights and requests. \ Perform a variety of simple, repetitive tasks, many involving unpleasant conditions and contagious disease. \ Possess ability to deal with death and stress as related to patient illness. \ Adhere to instruction issued by the Clinical Head Nurse/ Shift Supervisor and perform duties in accordance with established nursing home routines, methods, and techniques, and in compliance with the nursing home\'s recognized policies, procedures, standards, and practices and within the State regulatory acts. \ Maintain good housekeeping standards within assigned duty areas, including but not limited to patient units, diet kitchens, utility rooms, linen rooms, and day rooms. \ Understand and demonstrate procedures and techniques used in providing personal services for the residents, safeguarding, and caring for equipment and supplies. \ Prepare and maintain a record of observations and tasks completed on the Helping Hands assignment sheet and inform Clinical Head Nurse/Shift Supervisor of changes in patients\' condition. At the end of the shift, review and sign the assignment sheet. \ Assist clinicians as needed. \ Demonstrate dependability, honesty and industriousness. \ Cooperate with other members of the health care team and personnel from other departments in order to meet the total needs of the residents and the facility. \ Attend all facility meetings as required by the Director of Nursing Services. \ Possess genuine interest in geriatric nursing. \ Possess willingness to work with realization that errors and incompetence may have serious consequences for residents. \ Demonstrate appropriate personal hygiene. \ Possess visual and auditory acuity in order to perform the needs of the job tasks. \ Lift and/or carry objects including but not limited to office and/or medical supplies and equipment at a minimum of fifty (50) pounds. \ Possess even disposition and personality conducive to a supportive environment for residents. \ Assume responsibility for other tasks as may be deemed necessary by the Clinical Head Qualifications \ A high school education or equivalent is preferred but not mandatory. Must be able to be trained in utilizing a computer kiosk. Ability to follow written and oral directions. \ For Helping Hands Assistant, on the job training will be provided. Potential Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) trainees must be able to work an established schedule in order to receive on the job clinical CNA training. This is a requirement that would qualify applicants to proceed to take the Department of Public health established nurses aide certification test. Applicants must pass this test to become a certified nursing assistant according to regulatory established guidelines. Helping Hands Assistants are not required to transition into the CNA training pr gram.
