Job Description - Field Service Engineer in Greater Boston, MA

PLEASE READ!!!! * THIS IS NOT A DESKTOP SUPPORT/IT POSITION*
*This position is for Field Service. Visiting various customers each day and carrying tools and test equipment.*
The Field Service Engineer is responsible for providing on-site support to BD customers that includes, but is not limited to: installation and service of diagnostic instrumentation, after-hours phone support, holiday and weekend on-site support, marketing, exhibitions, and clinical trials support.
*Within the role of an FSE, daily travel to and from multiple customers sites is required. Complex troubleshooting and repairing systems containing but not limited to, Lasers/optical pathways, fluidic systems, pneumatic systems, electronic systems, and PC’s to resolve issues while onsite is required.*
Overall responsibilities:
Install, repair, maintain, and service instrumentation with minimum direct supervision in accordance with all current documented service procedures, as well as ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) standards.
Provide timely service for customers by communicating estimated arrival times, duration onsite, contact information, and responding to any customer questions or concerns before start of work onsite
Accountable for providing support for customers to meet BD standards of outstanding quality service every time
Ensure all service was completed satisfactorily for customer. Communicate summary of all work done onsite including issues found, cause, solutions, and qualification testing done to resolve. Respond to all customer questions or concerns. Obtain customer signoff of all work done before departing job site.
Timely escalate all customer and/or instrument related issues to District Technical Specialist and Service Manager for additional support.
Promote and maintain good customer relations through high standards of personal appearance, ethical behavior, and consummate professionalism. Display professionalism and good judgment in all interactions
Accurately maintain car stock inventory, test equipment, tools, service procedures, and technical data.
Maintain expense levels within established guidelines for field service travel and living expenses including but not limited to airfare, lodging, and meals
Safety operate, maintain, and utilize company vehicle as outlined in current Corporate fleet policy.
Accountable for Company issued credit cards, travel advances, company vehicle, spare parts trunk stock, test equipment, laptop, mobile devices, storage media, and all company property
Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Physical Requirements:
High School diploma
A minimum of 3 years’ experience troubleshooting systems, instruments, or components
A valid Driver's License
Must be able to travel a minimum of 50%
Lifting requirements - Ability to safely lift up to 50 lb. objects weighing up to 50 lbs. from floor to chest level.
Hand Powered Tools - Ability to safely operate powered drills, powered screw drivers, and related hand tools.
Ability to safely work on and/or around lasers, optics, fluidics, electronics, high voltage, mechanical handlers, pinch points, sharp edges, and biohazards
Ability to safely use and operate various test equipment including DVMs, power meters, oscilloscopes, microscopes, pressure gauges, vacuum gauges, and related test equipment
Manual Tool Use and Manipulation - Ability to safely use and turn manual sockets, crescent wrenches, screw drivers, Allen wrenches, ratchets, and related hand tools repeatedly over the course of an 8-to-10-hour day.
Ability to safely sit, kneel, squat, bend, and stand repeatedly for up to 8–10-hour durations while servicing, repairing, installing, upgrading, and/or maintaining instrumentation and equipment.
Ability to safely push and pull objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
Ability to safely perform fine motor tasks during course of an 8–10-hour day.
Ability to safely drive distances of up to 8+ hours within a given day including adverse weather conditions.
Able to safely climb and lift portable ladders and step stools.
Ability to carry a pack weighing up to 30 lb. on your back for up to 1 hour.
Able to wear and use safety glasses, goggles, gloves, respirator, bunny suit, and/or related PPE for up to 8-10 hour durations while servicing equipment. Must complete fit test, spirometry, and medical evaluation…and 1x annually thereafter.
Assets:
Flow Cytometry experience is a plus
Technical military training
Associates or Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Engineering, or other related technical or biological discipline
Prior Field Service Engineer experience
Individuals with previous experience troubleshooting medical device instruments.
Previous customer interfacing role
Proficiency with MS Office applications such as Word and Excel
Familiarity with recent Mac and PC operating systems
Experience with tools and test equipment such as digital volt meters and oscilloscopes desirable
