About This Role

We believe people should love what they do – in this role, you will be responsible for:

Textron Systems is looking for a skilled algorithm development engineer/scientist to be part of a strong team developing advanced sensor algorithms for defense applications. This position involves research, design, simulation, and development of complex signal processing algorithms for autonomous and semi-autonomous military equipment. Sensor types include, but are not limited to, embedded cameras, lasers, acoustic and seismic sensors, radar, and inertial components. The candidate must be able to work independently on individual assigned tasks and well as collaborate with other team members throughout the projects. The candidate will work closely with embedded software engineers implementing routines on system target platforms. Therefore, the ability to understand how the algorithms will operate and behave in the embedded environment is preferred. This position requires that the candidate be a US citizen with or capable of receiving a SECRET clearance.


  • Formulate algorithm design requirements based upon customer system requirements

  • Work with systems engineering to determing appropriate sensor-processing algorithm performance requirements to achieve end-to-end performance solution

  • Work with modeling and simulation to develop models and simulations of advanced sensors systems including source signal and propagation models for assessing system performance

  • Specification of analog and digital sensor signal conditioning and associated electronics design requirements.

  • Work as part of a small, focused team to develop and implement novel sensing, signal processing techniques, and weapon system fire control solutions.

  • Develop system concepts using sensing technologies such as acoustic, seismic, visual and infra-red, and RADAR

  • Develop and implement machine-learning algorithms, system tracking and multi-sensor fusion algorithms.

  • Prototype algorithm routines in C and MATLAB

  • Assist embedded software engineers with implementation, test, and validation of algorithms on target system hardware

  • Validate and optimize new and existing algorthim routines

  • Perform sensor data collection activities to create new data sets for algorithm verification

  • Analyze new and existing data sets for feature extraction

  • Create verification scripts to validate algorithm routines

  • Prepare technical documentation and briefings on algorithm design and performance

  • Prepare technical documentation on algorithm design and behavoir

  • Prepare and present briefings for design reviews, program reviews, and other customer meetings



  • Experienced leadership in embedded algorithm development for advanced sensor projects

  • BS or advanced degrees in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related technical discipline

  • 5 – 10 years of work experience

  • Programming experience in C/C , MATLAB, Simulink, and/or Python

  • Strong verbal communications and writing skills

  • This position requires that the candidate be a US citizen with or capable of receiving a SECRET clearance
