Eversource Energy Manager, Economic Analysis and Transmission Strategy in Westwood, Massachusetts
Role and Scope of Position:
Performs economic analyses of the clean energy transition in New England. This position is responsible for modeling the electricity sector and use of the transmission grid to meet the mission and objectives of the organization. Takes a lead role in administering the model dataset, settings, assumptions, outputs, and results interpretation. Contributes to reports and presentations of economic analyses. In addition, this position coordinates preparation and development of data, reports, presentations, and compliance filings regarding Eversource transmission projects to ISO New England and serves as a transmission engineering subject matter expert in state, regional, and federal forums. This position shares accountability with peers in the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic initiatives and economic analyses. Responsible for supervising, assigning, prioritizing, and directing the work performed by other Analysts. Participates in the development and administration of departmental systems. Assists in the development and maintenance of departmental, job aides, procedures and supporting documentation.
Eversource is looking for a Manager, Economic Analysis and Transmission Strategy located in the Westwood, MA or Hartford, CT office. The goal of this position is to support the clean energy transition in New England by providing analytical, economic, and strategic services that support transmission solutions needed for our customers and the growth of the Eversource electric transmission business.
In this position you will be responsible for supporting early-stage development of strategic electric transmission projects and initiatives through electricity market simulation modeling, data analysis, and industry research. You will support economic analyses for the ISO-NE control area based on input from internal and external stakeholders. These analyses may support specific transmission projects, investigate general transmission concepts, and/or inform policy-driven initiatives. You will be asked to collaborate with a team of engineers and analysts to provide the most accurate and useful information to inform how electric transmission can best enable reliable electric service, growth of clean energy technologies, and facilitate meeting the aggressive economy-wide decarbonization goals of the New England states.
You will be responsible to coordinate preparation and development of data, reports, presentations, and compliance filings regarding Eversource transmission projects for internal and external stakeholders and serves as a Transmission and Economic analysis subject matter expert in state, regional, and federal forums. This position shares accountability with peers in the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic initiatives and economic analyses. Responsible for supervising, assigning, prioritizing and directing the work performed by other engineers or analysts. Responsible for working directly and collaboratively with various internal stakeholders to provide insights and ensure alignment on key issues affecting Eversource’s transmission business.
Essential Functions:
- Support or lead (in collaboration with System Planning) initiation of concepts that support growth of the Transmission business.
- Collaborate closely with all members of the Concept Initiation Committee to ensure alignment on timing and substance of concepts and actions needed to maintain competitive position.
- Provides subject matter expertise and oversight of cross-functional analyses including engineering power flow, economic capacity expansion, production cost, and probabilistic modeling analyses of the New England system. Oversees engineers and consultants who may be retained to perform technical analysis.
- Support the Transmission Business Development and Strategic Planning & Policy teams on the identification and development of other business development opportunities.
- Coordination of cross-functional support across Eversource on major initiatives
- Lead and support early-stage strategic projects
- Support bid development including drafting applications for local, regional, or national funding opportunities.
- Regular cross-functional engagement with senior management
- Significant interaction with project partners and other third parties and creative problem-solving skills.
- Manages, coaches, develops and reviews performance of engineers, analysts and other staff.
- Research and analyze relevant policies and studies that impact and influence the growth of Eversource’s transmission business and modeling assumptions.
- Support other groups within Eversource by providing data, simulation outputs, or relevant knowledge from the transmission business.
- Responsible for subject matter expertise to state procurement evaluation team on transmission network and interconnection-related issues.
- Responsible for scrutiny of technical reports related to the operational and economic impact of clean energy resources on the electric transmission and distribution systems in New England.
- May serve as an expert witness in state regulatory proceedings.
Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:
Technical Knowledge/Skill:
- Experience with electric production cost modeling tools such as PLEXOS, Gridview, PROMOD, or any software with similar functionality and purpose
- Knowledge of power system analysis software such as PSS/E, TARA, Powerworld, ASPEN Oneliner, etc.
- Knowledge of major ongoing clean energy policy activities that impact Eversource’s transmission business such as Connecticut and Massachusetts state-mandated clean energy procurements, FERC interconnection and transmission planning reforms, etc.
- Requires strong knowledge of regulatory, legislative, and industry trends in the energy sector and utility operations, including advances in technology and the resulting impact on the state and region.
- Demonstrated ability in working across functional / organizational boundaries is desirable.
- Strong communication skills.
- Familiarity with concepts related to electric transmission and emerging utility technologies (e.g., distributed energy, grid modernization, storage, etc.) is highly desirable.
- Requires knowledge and experience with ISO/RTO processes and FERC open access transmission tariffs.
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, Operations Management, Public Policy, Political Science, related degree or equivalent relevantexperience
Experience :
- Ten (10) to twelve (12) years of related experience in the electricity industry isrequired.
Licenses & Certifications:
- Valid Motor Vehicle Operator’s License is required
Compensation & Benefits:
- Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The annual salary range for this position is $144,000 to $161,000 plus incentive. Salary iscommensuratewithyourexperience. Check out the career site for an overview of our benefits.
Working Conditions:
- Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
- Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
- Must be available for occasional travel outside of the service area (i.e., Washington, DC)
