Eversource Energy Lead Engineer in Westwood, Massachusetts

(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHmr45H8xZE)Performs as Leader of a team of associate engineers and carries out assignments requiring mastery of subject matter, with extensive experience associated with modeling distribution systems. Exhibits strong technical skills on the design of the electric power system and creates training programs for associate engineers to develop them professionally and technically for future roles in various System Planning groups. Together with Senior Engineers on the team, spear heads and leads the development of techniques, processes, and team skills for multiyear planning models. Represents the company regarding matters in distribution planning at the state public utility commissions and various state and regional entities.

Essential Functions:

  • Leads a team of Associate Engineers in the Modeling Team across all Operating Company
  • Assumes ownership of System Planning Models for all Operating Companies
  • Supports the development of a distribution modeling standard for Distribution System Planning
  • Develops a process for creating multi-year planning models (1-10 years) as well as long range electric adoption impact models (up to 2050) and works with team of Associate Engineers to train them on the process and ensure process quality
  • Develops and improves processes for model creation and maintenance
  • Spear heads improvements to the Company’s Synergi Models such as coordinating improvements of source data with GridMod and developing new customer specific load profiles; works with advanced forecasting team to integrate dispatch models for DERs into Planning Models
  • Collaborate with multiple cross-functional groups in developing a multi-year planning models
  • Develops agile team management processes
  • Manages backlog and priorities for the team of associate engineers
  • Coordinates with deliverable stakeholders on timelines and priorities of work
  • Implements an agile approach to workload management for the associate engineers
  • Together with Senior Engineers on the team leads the creation of a distribution planning engineer training program for the Associate Engineers in the Modeling Group
  • Plans modeling resources with high precision to deliver models to all DER, DSP, and TSP groups on time and in expected quality
  • Delivers regular status reports on modeling processes
  • Ensures progress of associate engineers as they advance their skills in Synergi, Python, Databases, and PSCAD
  • Develops an official training program for associate engineers training them to be expert Distribution Power System Engineers.
  • Coordinates with planning departments to develop career progressions for Associate Engineers
  • Develops goals and conducts reviews of direct reports
  • Prepares any related documentation and/or testimony to support regulatory filings.
  • Effective communication, support and implementation with distribution customers pertaining to proposed facilities.
  • Provides leadership in coordinating multiple cross-functional groups, and positive guidance for engineers.
  • Presents recommendations and/or results to all levels of management as appropriate.
  • Represents the department and the company on various committees.
  • Recommends the development and/or changes as appropriate of criteria and standards for distribution modeling.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Working knowledge of complex computer simulation techniques used in distribution planning.
  • Knowledge of new technologies including but not limited to photovoltaic solar, electric vehicles, and battery storage
  • Knowledge of the techniques for planning the expansion of distribution lines and distribution substation facilities.
  • Advanced knowledge of electrical theory as applied to planning an electric power supply system.
  • Advanced knowledge of distribution line design and operating practices.
  • Basic Python knowledge preferrable
  • Knowledge of National, State and other planning standards.
  • Good written and oral communication skills, including formal presentation.
  • Excellent team skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills, ability to develop strategic partnerships.
  • Ability to achieve desired results by setting high standards for self and others, and accepts responsibility for outcomes.

Education:

  • Requires a BS Electrical Engineering
  • MS Electrical Engineering Preferred

Experience :

  • Eight years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
