Eversource Energy Lead Analyst, Energy Supply in Westwood, Massachusetts

Role and Scope of Position:

The Lead Analyst, Energy Supply will be a key member of the Company’s wholesale power department which manages over $2 billion in annual electric power supply and Renewable Energy Credit (REC) purchases. This role will act in supervisory roles and perform key analytical tasks supporting electric power supply and REC procurements for customers in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Connecticut. This position will also assist in executing the ongoing strategy associated with the procurement of energy and environmental attributes under increasing clean energy and decarbonization targets instituted by the New England states as well as evaluate emerging market trends, policy initiatives, and disruptive technologies.

Essential Functions:

  • Team supervision of technical analysis and data management supporting the RFP process for procuring electric power supply and clean energy attributes.
  • Track energy and REC prices in New England and provide relevant metrics and calculations to internal departments, such as accounting, treasury, and legal.
  • Participates in NEPOOL and regional committees to develop recommendations affecting markets and/or reliability rulemaking.
  • Support the process to sell Eversource’s Hydro Quebec Phase I/II Transmission Capacity Use Rights via a competitive RFP process.
  • Support the Director and/or the Manager, Wholesale Electric Supply, in testimony and/or presentations to senior management and regulatory/state agencies on issues associated with energy strategy.
  • Collaborate across multiple organizations to develop and implement plans in support of company’s strategic goals.
  • Review pending energy-related legislation and provide recommendations used to develop corporate positions.
  • Administer power supply contracts, including regulatory compliance and monthly invoicing.
  • Work closely with regulatory, government affairs, and legal departments related to the administration of power supply and REC contracts.
  • Assist in the development of presentations for Eversource senior management and outside stakeholders.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge

  • Experience and expert knowledge in wholesale electricity markets (energy, capacity, and ancillary services) operated by ISO-New England.
  • Knowledge of the utility regulatory processes in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Connecticut—along with the role that utilities play in decarbonization targets established by these states.
  • Awareness of conventional and renewable power generation technology costs and performance profiles.
  • Understanding of Renewable Portfolio Standards (RPS), Clean Energy Standards, and decarbonization targets in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Connecticut.
  • Experience in contract administration and contract management.
  • General knowledge of utility economics and finance.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications, with a particular emphasis on Microsoft Excel modelling and analytics.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to work well within all levels of the enterprise.
  • Expert ability to research and analyze data, determine relevant factors associated, and concisely summarize both key quantitative and qualitative implications for senior management in an efficient and accurate manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with other Eversource departments on power supply issues.
  • Ability to develop testimony and answer data requests for regulatory bodies.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with legal staff regarding issues that require regulatory approval or could result from or lead to litigation.
  • Exceptional project management skills
  • Ability to interact and develop relationships with external business partners.
  • Proficiency in evaluating RFP bids leading to contracts.
  • Proficient at understanding and interpreting complex power purchase agreements.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while leading various workstreams.
  • Demonstrated high standard of professional technical competence related to the utility industry; energy markets, and general applicable regulatory regimes.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

Education

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, business administration or related discipline. A master’s degree in business administration, economics, is desirable.

  • Eight or more years of related experience

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency storm assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
