Our location in Westford, MA, currently has an opportunity for a Senior EHS Specialist.


Primary Job Functions:

  • Implement and maintain Abbott Vascular policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all Abbott, local, state and federal health and safety standards.

  • Research, determine applicability, and implement plan for compliance with health and safety regulations

  • Develop and provide employee EHS training

  • Support facilities operations and projects through hazard reviews and creation of safety plans

  • Provide oversight for contractor safety program and drive improvements to contractor safety performance and training

  • Conduct inspections, assist with implementation of corrective actions and track observations to closure

  • Serve as center of expertise in Lockout/Tagout, Hot Work, Emergency Preparedness, Hazard Communication, Fire Prevention, Industrial Hygiene, Contractor Safety, Hazard Communication,Personal Protective Equipment, Electrical Safety, Biological Safety, Working at Heights, Machine Guarding, Powered Industrial Vehicles, and Ergonomics.

Core Job Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.

  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to address current and anticipated occupational safety issues

  • Ensure and facilitate the timely investigation of accidents and recommended preventative measures and ensure risk of recurrence is minimized or eliminated

  • Train new employees and contractors to AV’s EHS policies and procedures.

  • Develop EHS training to comply with regulatory and corporate requirements

  • Lead the emergency preparedness and response systems in the site including coordinating emergency/crisis preparedness, training, and emergency evacuation drills

Position Accountability / Scope:

  • Practical knowledge of concepts, practices and procedures commonly utilized within the health and safety profession

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and achieve objectives within established deadlines

  • Excellent organization and communication skills,

  • Self-motivation and capacity to work under limited supervision,

  • Ability to interact with employees at all levels of the organization and lead multi-disciplinary teams,

  • ‘Soft’ skills (coaching/influence, negotiation, etc.) to help drive safety culture improvement and improve employee safety engagement


Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor degree in EH&S, Engineering, or Science and a minimum of 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

Minimum Experience / Training Required:

  • 5+ years of experience in health and safety role

  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications

Preferred Experience / Qualifications:

  • Experience in a Manufacturing environment

  • GMP experience with Pharma/Medical Devices

  • Certifications: CSP, CHMM
