Red Hat Senior Principal Software Engineer in Westford, Massachusetts

Lead, design and implement, state of the art, secure cloud native platform architectures for large scale applications and deployments. Lead the Security Audits and Penetration Testing activities and define the deliverables for the Telco 5G platform.

*Telecommuting permitted: work may be performed within normal commuting distance from the Red Hat, Inc. office in Westford, MA.

What you will do:

  • Work with product management, sales, and other engineering teams to steer the Telco 5G security roadmap to deliver on the expectations of a platform of choice for the 5G vRAN market.

  • Coordinate with cross-functional managers and teams on documentation, product management, and quality engineering (QE) to complete tasks necessary for releasing software that is respecting security standards.

  • Design and implement virtualization solutions for containers and virtual machines (VMs), contributing to industry-leading technologies like Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, libvirt, and QEMU.

  • Create and guide new feature development and contribute to open-source projects in Golang and Python.

  • Integrate changes in multiple projects and services into a consumable feature.

  • Submit patches for bug fixes to the open-source community and review patches from other members.

  • Work with the Quality Engineering (QE) team to ensure projects are tested correctly.

  • Publicize the team's work through blogs, web postings, or conference talks.

What you will bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree (U.S. or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science or related field and three (3) years of experience in the job offered or related role OR five (5) years of experience in the job offered or related role.

  • Must have three (3) years of experience with: low latency tuning on amd64 architecture; storage and network Linux latency and performance tuning; distributed systems product design and architecture; developing and designing security components or products; Linux system programming; defining and implementing security processes within engineering groups; platform infrastructure development, including Storage or Networking or Security; microservices and containerization; and Kubernetes performance tuning. Must have two (2) years of experience with: SR-IOV configuration for Linux VMs; distributed systems implementation in Golang; Python product implementation; and OpenShift administration.

  • Must have one (1) year of experience with: VM management on VMWare; VM management on OpenShift virtualization; QEMU code modifications; deploying OpenShift on virtual machines; Linux kernel development; and C/C++ product implementation (userspace).

  • Domestic and international travel required 10% of the time for internal and customer meetings. Travel expenses covered by Red Hat, Inc.

The salary range for this position is $181,440.00 - $299,260.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.

Pay Transparency

Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote-US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
