Amazon's Grocery Robotics and Automation Systems team is seeking a proven technology product leader to support the development and integration of advanced automation technologies at Amazon. The Sr. Product Manager – Tech, assist the business in determining which business requirements can and should be automated and how they are then integrated with other business and technical processes. Research and evaluate potential solutions in the automation space in partnership with the operations, business and technical team, defines the New Product Introduction (NPI) Proof of concept (POC), and drive implementation of the proposed solution. Single point of contact for business as a subject matter expert for Grocery Automation systems. Plan, refine, and make trade-offs for the requirements. Ability to write clearly, manage executive communication, and develop frameworks for decision-making. You'll work cross functionally with our dedicated tech team, partner tech teams, UX design, business intelligence, operations, legal, marketing, and creative teams to bring solutions to market and enhance the customer experience. This position requires the ability to innovate, analyze, organize, plan, schedule, implement, and deliver processes and projects to maximize safe, economical, and effective use of materials, energy, and people.

Key job responsibilities

• Assist the business in determining which business requirements can and should be automated and how they are then integrated with other business and technical processes

• Anticipate bottlenecks, manage risk and escalations, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints.

• Research and evaluate potential solutions in the grocery automation space in partnership with the operations and tech team, define the requirements and roadmap for the NPI and for Proof of concept (POC), and drive implementation of the proposed solution

• Maintain a feature backlog. Make requirements trade-offs for short-term and long term

Basic qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related technical field

• 5+ years relevant work experience in technical product management of highly automated systems and/or robotics

• Experience with integrating new systems into new and existing work environments.

• Experience with influencing, negotiating and communicating across multiple organization levels

• Experience managing detailed schedules and cross functional teams to deliver products to production

• Excellent presentation and writing skills, with the ability to translate theory into practical application

• Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition

• Experience with feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product

• Experience contributing to engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product

• Experience managing technical products especially robotics or highly automated complex systems

• Manage large, complex technology initiatives especially robotics inititaives, delivering critical solutions, significant improvements, new mechanisms, or deprecating systems that are no longer needed. These efforts require you to work with multiple teams in and/or across organizations.

• Understanding of Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, and MS Project)

• Accountable for the overall strategy of a large program. You successfully manage all stages (from concept to delivery). Your program meets challenging business goals and/or shows measurable improvements in efficiency or experience for customers, employees/engineers, or business area.

• Understand the architecture of the systems you work with (e.g., workflows, APIs, runtime characteristics, design limitations, and maintenance requirements). You influence team technical priorities and business strategy through data-driven contributions.

• Communicate ideas effectively, verbally and in writing, to a wide range of audiences including Directors and VPs. You foster a constructive dialogue, harmonize discordant views, and lead the resolution of contentious issues (build consensus). You partner successfully with customers, stakeholders, and engineering teams.

• Routinely and efficiently deliver the right things. You define clear goals and objectives. You drive crisp decisions in your program area about what projects move forward and in what priority order. You proactively identify risks and bring them to the attention of your team and stakeholders with plans for mitigation before they become roadblocks.

• Willing to travel, up to 25%

Preferred qualifications

• MBA in marketing, entrepreneurship

• 7+ years of experience in product management of highly automated systems and/or robotics

• Demonstrated skills leading and influencing global business partners

About the team

The Grocery Automation and Robotics Systems Team innovates, designs, develops, and integrate automation solutions to reduce cost and time to serve, while improving customer and employee experience for our Grocery operations. Our road map focuses on systematically improving every aspect of the Amazon’s Grocery operations from: associate experience, safety, costs, storage, throughput capacity, speed, flexibility, scalability, sustainability, operational performance and reliability. Our team members possess deep design experience and innovation skill-sets in these technical areas. We work closely with internal partner teams in all geographies to align priorities, eliminate duplication or waste. Our solutions are extremely cost effective, driving Customer value and experience. The team provides oversight and approvals for project technical feasibility, design and realization.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Experience owning/driving roadmap strategy and definition

  • Experience with feature delivery and tradeoffs of a product

  • Experience contributing to engineering discussions around technology decisions and strategy related to a product

  • 5+ years of technical product or program management experience

  • Experience in representing and advocating for a variety of critical customers and stakeholders during executive-level prioritization and planning

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA

  • Experience in building and driving adoption of new tools

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,100/year in our lowest geographic market up to $235,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
