Eversource Energy Manager, Complex Construction, Gas in Westborough, Massachusetts

Role and Scope of Position:

Responsible for the effective management of the complex capital construction program for Eversource across three gas operating companies. Complex construction work includes capital construction work associated specifically with city gate stations, district regulators, pressure monitoring facilities (field telemetry), bridge and river crossings, railroad crossings, and large diameter/long length steel pipeline installations. Partners with Project Engineering and Project Management to ensure that complex projects are properly designed, budgeted, specified, issued for bid, overseen, constructed per the design and schedule, meeting all regulatory and safety requirements and applicable engineering standards. Responsible for the coordination of contractor activity and approval of invoices. Ensures complex project work is completed in accordance with approved designs, specifications, schedules, and budget. Identifies areas for improving productivity; assigns work, coaches, and manages the complex construction supervisory staff and is responsible for establishing and monitoring goals.

Essential Functions:

  • Manages the complex construction program according to approved project schedules, standards, Project Engineering job-specific designs and specifications, regulations, and methods. Ensures all activity is performed in a timely, effective, environmentally prudent, and cost-efficient manner to meet regulatory and customer expectations.
  • Ensures that complex construction projects are completed in accordance with Eversource Safety policies and procedures, and comply with, or are completed in accordance with, Eversource standards and approved engineering project documents, established engineering practices, federal, state, and local laws, and construction industry standards.
  • Must read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and be able to identify discrepancies or conflicts within the documents as well as in the field.
  • Conducts or coordinates field measurements to confirm material quantities and drawing dimensions.
  • Responsible for the contract administration of applicable project-specific contracts or annual Eversource gas contractor agreements in accordance with established purchasing and contract administration standards.
  • Uses project management standards and project construction management tools to track and report on construction progress, control changes and ensures adherence to budget and schedule. Will also be expected to conduct and document observations of construction as it progresses, providing comprehensive status reports for management review.
  • Monitors key performance indicators, identifies trends, and takes appropriate actions to improve performance across the entire complex construction process.
  • Responsible for the training and development of complex construction supervisors.
  • Ensures that accurate and timely project documentation is maintained over the construction project life cycle, including change orders, approved design changes, owner directed changes and the resolution of design and technical conflicts.
  • Develops, defines, and maintains ongoing punch list, tracks and ensures completion of all issues. Develops and maintains project turn over and stakeholder acceptance and sign-off documentation.
  • Ensures that improvements in systems, processes and procedures are identified and implemented.
  • Hosts and participates in meetings as necessary to facilitate communication across project groups.

Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications:

Technical Knowledge/Skill:

  • Requires knowledge of design and construction of steel gas distribution facilities, pressure regulation facilities and telemetry equipment, as well as the codes and regulations that govern the operation and maintenance of the gas distribution system.
  • Experience with electrical, instrumentation, controls, piping and mechanical systems are desired.
  • Familiarity with a broad spectrum of construction materials, methods and processes is desired.
  • Requires knowledge of the theoretical and practical application of project management techniques, tools and software.
  • Requires the ability to read and interpret AutoCAD drawings and oversee construction ensuring conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required.
  • Master’s Degree or MBA preferred.

Experience :

Minimum of ten (10) years gas distribution, utility, or technical experience.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Eversource offers a competitive total rewards program. The salary range for this position starts at $140490.00 to $156100.00, plus incentive. Salary is commensurate with your experience. Check out the career site for an overview of benefits.

Working Conditions:

  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
  • This position is categorized as safety-sensitive for the purpose of drug testing. Successful applicants shall be subject to a pre-assignment drug test if the individual is currently in a non-safety sensitive position. As an employee in this position the individual shall be subject to random drug testing. A positive drug test will result in disciplinary action.
