This position is onsite in Webster, MA
Provide strategic and managerial leadership for the Commercial/Complex Claim Division. Oversee all claim handling operations of the corporations Commercial, multi-line high exposure/complex, excess and bad faith exposures to include investigation, negotiation and claim disposition to maximize service levels, control both allocated/unallocated expenses, maintain regulatory compliance in all jurisdictions and ensure settlement amounts are proper.
Working independently and utilizing management skills to achieve quality claim file handling, this individual will ensure timely and efficient delivery of the company’s obligations and responsibilities to the public in accordance with departmental standards and comply with legal, regulatory, and policy requirements. Train, develop, and motivate staff to maintain an efficient and effective area. Assume high visibility role in cross functional project work and lead strategic and operational initiatives within the Division.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education: Bachelor's Degree or professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, or equivalent related experience preferred.
Experience: 9 - 11 years or Master's Degree equivalent plus 7 - 9 years.
Knowledge: Extensive level of professional knowledge in field across multiple disciplines and broad business segment. Extensive knowledge of management practices.
Decision Making: Influences development of overall objectives including long-range goals for the organization. Typically exercises judgment within broadly defined policies and practices. Establishes, modifies operating policies and procedures that affect subordinate units. Recommends modifications to broad operating policies which may impact projects, operations, and considerable expenditure risk and major portions of operations. Problems are generally diverse, complex and impact major business segments.
Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
A minimum of 15 years multi-line claims adjusting/technical experience required. A minimum of 5 years claims management experience required with exposure to suit and litigation handling.
Must have a thorough knowledge of MA Insurance as well as multi-state, multi-line Personal, Commercial auto and OTA policies and associated claims handling strategies and settlement practices.
Ability to identify, plan, organize and implement improved methods, procedures, and workflow along with the ability to be innovative, adaptable, and manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously while ensuring the department remains adaptable in a fast paced, multi-task environment.
Experience in working with defense attorneys desired. On a daily basis, this position utilizes strong quantitative, analytical, technical and interpersonal skills, as well as an understanding of Human Resource policies.
A pro-active, positive approach and strong ability to problem solve and to make sound business decisions are part of regular activities.
This position also actively utilizes leadership ability, excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, effective written and verbal communication skills, meeting presentation skills, and an overall ability to use tact and discretion to oversee and direct departmental and company goals. Familiarity with automation and technology as it applies to the claims process is preferred.
