Thermo Fisher Scientific Senior Accounting Manager in Waltham, Massachusetts

How will you make an impact?

The Senior Accounting Manager is highly visible leadership position focused on accounting process improvement, leveraging technology and developing a high performing team. This role reports to the Senior Accounting Director/Controller for Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (CMD) and Instrument Enterprise Services Divisions (IES) with combined division revenues exceeding $2 billion to support all aspects of accounting, consolidations, internal controls, audit and financial reporting within the 2 divisions. This position plays a key role within the AIG Controllership team and works closely with the regional accounting teams, global shared service (GBS) centers, corporate reporting, and the CMD and IES FP&A teams.

What will you do?

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead CMD & IES global month end close, working with GBS and local/regional teams; including communication and follow-up on close issues.

  • Collaborate with Corporate technical accounting teams to perform technical accounting research on complex issues to ensure proper accounting treatment and advise CMD & IES finance teams

  • Establish governance and control framework to support new and enhanced Global ERP and other system applications

  • Responsible Division controllership activities including PII, restructuring, AAM, and rep letter coordination

  • Support and coordinate CMD/IES controllership teams for internal and external audits

  • Drive working capital performance and achievement of cash and DSO targets and bad debt reserve management with GBS and regional accounting teams

  • Work closely with Division FP&A teams for annual AR/DSO target setting and monthly forecast submissions

  • Lead cross functional initiatives to drive process improvement and improve compliance; including peer reviews, balance sheet reviews and executive account reconciliation reviews

  • Support AIG Finance transformation project to drive simplification and automation solutions to reduce errors and prior period reconciliation issues across CMD & IES

  • Lead and support special project including M&A activities for AIG Controllership

How will you get here?

Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of progressive accounting/finance leadership experience with a combination of public accounting and industry experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance and CA/CPA or equivalent designation

  • Experience in leading a diverse global financial month-end close in an accurate and timely manner while maintaining a strong control environment

  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated success in attracting, recruiting, retaining, developing, coaching, and inspiring a global team with high-potential talents

  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP with demonstrated advanced accounting and technical skills including experience with complex revenue arrangements in a manufacturing environment

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to confidently present complex information to all levels of the organization are required.

  • Ability to thrive in a large, fast-pace, matrixed, international organization and proven history of leading cross functional/country teams to build organizational relationships with customers, peers and operating partners across functions & geographies.

  • Prior experience and expertise in working with financial software such as SAP, Hyperion Financial Management and Hyperion Enterprise

  • Ability to drive continuous improvement with a successful track record of optimizing processes with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to set appropriate priorities with multiple projects and execute them successfully
