This is an on-site and full-time position in Waltham, MA. The Team

The Alloy Protein Sciences team supports the Alloy Discovery Services (ADS) team with custom recombinant protein production with focus on antibody-based drug formats and engineered cell lines. As a core group of ADS, the team is integral to every discovery campaign. Protein Science leverages established protocols to deliver on project timelines, while also innovating new techniques to drive efficiency and advance the field. The team has a strong focus on the integration of automation to support high-throughput processes.

The Role

You will work within our Protein Sciences team to innovate, improve, and strengthen our internal industrial biological production technologies at Alloy. You will be using and helping to develop the latest in protein production and purification techniques with the goal of making better medicines together with our collaborators. This role will report to our Head of Protein Sciences with autonomy owning various projects and tasks in a dynamic start-up environment while keeping up the pace of Alloy. This is you!

How You’ll Drive Impact

  • Produce: Maintain and expand a steady production capacity, delivering high quality material consistently

  • Design: Engineer bi and tri specific antibody formats for optimal biological function and production efficiency.

  • Innovate: Ideate and test new methods for recombinant protein production & purification.

  • Coordinate: Your activities with upstream and downstream teams to streamline activities across ADS

  • Automate: Implement advanced automation techniques across our FPLCs to streamline our protocols with the goal of expanding the number of fully automated two step productions

    Principal Responsibilities

  • Recombinant production and purification of bispecific and trispecific antibody formats

  • Recombinant production of bespoke non-antibody molecules for use as immunogens and project

  • support reagents

  • Protocol development and optimization with a focus on automation of mid-scale purification from

  • end to end

  • Lead the design of multi-specific and other custom protein formats

  • Collaborate and serve as a SME for recombinant production on project teams

  • Lead projects internally on client’s behalf

    Qualifications

  • You have a PhD, Masters, or BS/BA in an appropriate scientific discipline (cellular or molecular  biology, biochemistry, chemistry, etc.) with 0-1, 3+, or 8+ years, respectively, of research   experience working with recombinant DNA and/or proteins in support of the discovery of biologics  

  • You have a track record of improving production processes and a history of producing difficult to   purify molecules

  • You have experience with protein expression across a wide range of hosts (bacteria, insect,   mammalian) and multiple chromatography methodologies and tags (affinity, SEC, HIC, IEX)

  • You have experience with analytical assays for recombinant proteins (a-SEC, Light Scattering,   Mass Spec, SDS-PAGE, etc.)

  • You have a track record of engineering solutions and a structure-based design approach

  • You are a self-starter and think outside the box. You are unafraid to challenge convention. You   are driven.

  • It is a plus if you have experience with project management in a customer focused environment

  • You pay attention to details, and you practice rigorous scientific thinking & clear communication   skills

  • You have sense of urgency, speed, persistence, and organization and prefer a dynamic, fun, and   exciting work environment

  • Ability to work across various US and international time zones

  • Accommodate occasional travel as needed (<5%)
