Department/Position Overview:

The Principal Research Associate (PRA) will be a member of the Biologics Drug Product Development & Manufacturing (BioDPD-M) group within the global CMC organization. This role will primarily support gene therapy drug product development projects within the Genomic Medicine Unit (GMU). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to support a broad range of drug product modalities, such as viral and non-viral gene therapies, along with protein and enzyme therapeutics.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the execution of drug product formulation and process development, characterization and robustness, and stability studies in multi-disciplinary teams.

  • Partner with internal and external partners to address formulation, fill-finish, stability, compatibility and digitalization aspects efficiently and comprehensively, using established protocols and methods, across technological platforms and disciplines.

  • Plan, prioritize and initiate concurrent experimental procedures for multiple programs to ensure their timely completion.

  • Provide technical mentorship to more junior team members.

  • Demonstrate ownership of assigned studies to ensure timely completion.

  • Maintain a strong work ethic and good documentation practices, including electronic laboratory notebook maintenance, authoring technical reports and SOPs.

  • Analyze, compile and present results to internal and cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

About you

Basic Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in biochemistry, pharmaceutical science, chemical engineering, materials science, or a related discipline with a minimum of 2 years experience, or Bachelors degree in these disciplines with a minimum of 4 years experience.

  • Knowledge of analytical and biophysical characterization techniques such as HPLC, CE-SDS, DSC, qPCR, DLS, rheology, CD, and fluorescence spectroscopy.

  • Ability and motivation to multi-task and learn new skills; flexibility and adaptability required to operate in a fast-paced, team environment.

  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in handling, formulating, processing, and characterizing gene therapy drug product, such as adeno-associated virus (AAV) and lipid nanoparticles (LNPs).

  • Knowledge of gene therapy drug product process development, fill-finish, lyophilization, and process modeling.
