Job Description Summary:

Rocket Software is seeking an experienced IBM mainframe software engineer to join its performance products development team. This software engineer will contribute to the development and support of industry leading tools addressing the management and performance analysis of z/OS workloads. Deep technical knowledge of Mainframe architecture will be a distinct advantage for candidates applying for this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Own the design and development of one or more key product components or products

  • Become recognized as a technical expert in a Rocket product and related technologies

  • Be responsible for on-time delivery of technical work

  • Follow development processes and associated standards

  • Produce high quality architectures, designs, and code

  • Provide high quality level-3 support for designated Rocket products

  • Documents and communicates on complex technical topics across the company

  • Provides thought leadership and innovation within a technical domain

  • Regularly puts forth ideas and implements them into the product

  • Communicates effectively across the organization, including with the leadership team

  • Able to manage multiple competing priorities while remaining cool and collected

  • Works with the Program Review Team to ensure that high quality products are designed and released

  • Builds and maintains an effective working relationship with work colleagues and key contacts within business partner organizations

  • Participates in the peer reviews of other Rocket products and contributes to the continuous improvement of work practices at Rocket

  • Able to execute tasks with a high degree of independence

  • Is an excellent team player and displays a high degree of flexibility

Required Qualifications:

  • Highly experienced mainframe programmer using IBM High Level Assembler (HLASM) or Metal C

  • Skilled in using any of C, C++, REXX, COBOL or Java

  • Advanced understanding of Mainframe and its components or working experience with Mainframe DB2, IMS, CICS and/or MQ

  • In-depth knowledge of mainframe architectures

  • Experience in dump reading using fault analysis tools such as IPCS and z/XDC

  • Experience in designing, developing, and maintaining software for delivery in packaged product form

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Mainframe Performance Tools like OMEGAMON

  • Highly skilled in developing high quality design documentation

  • Good to have some working experience on tools such as JIRA

  • Experience working in an agile-scrum team

  • Desirable skills in ISPF dialog development

  • Proven success mentoring and developing more junior software engineers

  • Annual salary range for this position is between €60,000 and €80,000 gross before taxes. Salary offer for the candidate is determined based on the predefined salary ranges for the position and depends on the level of competence and experience of the candidate
