Evolv Technology Director of Revenue Operations & Accounting in Waltham, Massachusetts
The Elevator Pitch
Evolv is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Director of Revenue Operations and Accounting to lead our revenue accounting function. As a key leader in the accounting department, the Director of Revenue Operations and Accounting will lead a team of revenue accountants and be responsible for overseeing the company’s revenue recognition process, including: all accounting related matters associated with the quote-to-cash cycle; ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant revenue recognition; and financial reporting and ASC 606, ASC 842, and SOX compliance. This is a critical position to support our ongoing growth and help maintain compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in ASC 606 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers) and SOX compliance, along with a proven track record of leadership in revenue accounting and related processes in a public company setting. Strong interpersonal skills, a collaborative mindset, and a focus on process improvements are key to success in this role.

Success in the Role: What are performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
In the first 30 days, you will:
Have built relationships within your team of direct reports, the Accounting department, and with key internal (Finance, Sales, IT, Legal, Tax) and external partners/consultants.
Be confident with Evolv’s processes, policies, and systems.
Integrate into accounting routines.
Within 3 months, you will:
Take on end-to-end leadership for the Revenue Accounting team and function.
Help reduce days to revenue close, improve accuracy of revenue reporting, and ensure that sales order approvals are not a bottleneck.
Improve sales order review process by removing bottlenecks and increasing speed while not sacrificing accuracy.
Work with experts needed in various steps of the process to resolve and generate know how to independently review non-complex orders.
Ensure smooth revenue and internal controls auditing procedures.
Create efficiencies and improvements both in and outside of any system, while gaining a thorough understanding of our SOX-compliant processes and controls with the order to cash cycle.
Within 1 year, you will:
Design, implement and perform new, improved processes and control in accordance with SOX and best practices.
Reduce revenue close cycle to 3 business days with improved accuracy and transparency
Become a cross-functional subject matter expert, assisting and partnering with sales, revenue administration, IT and other groups as appropriate.

Revenue Recognition (ASC 606)
Oversee the company’s compliance with ASC 606 for revenue recognition, including ensuring all contracts are accurately reviewed, documented, and revenue is recognized appropriately.
Lead the accounting for multi-element arrangements and complex revenue transactions, ensuring proper application of accounting standards.
Work closely with Sales, Legal, and Operations teams to assess new revenue contracts and determine the correct accounting treatment.
Maintain and update internal policies related to revenue recognition in accordance with evolving regulations.
SOX Compliance
Ensure that internal controls over financial reporting related to revenue and lease accounting comply with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) regulations.
Lead the assessment, design, and implementation of control activities for all revenue related accounting processes, including remediation of material weaknesses and significant deficiencies.
Prepare for SOX audits by external auditors, coordinating efforts across departments and ensuring all necessary documentation is in place for testing and review.
Financial Reporting & Analysis
Review and prepare accurate revenue-related financial statements and reports, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and SEC reporting requirements.
Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue recognition summaries to senior leadership, highlighting key trends, risks, and opportunities.
Prepare detailed schedules for revenue and lease accounting in financial statements, footnotes, and disclosures.
Process Optimization & Improvements
Identify opportunities to streamline and improve the efficiency of revenue recognition and lease accounting processes, recommending and implementing best practices.
Develop and maintain automation tools or processes to improve accuracy and reduce manual work in the revenue and lease accounting areas.
Lead cross-functional efforts to refine systems and workflows related to revenue and lease accounting.
Audit & External Reporting
Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors on revenue recognition and all related audit areas, as well as SOX compliance matters.
Coordinate year-end audits, interim reviews, and any ad-hoc external audit requests.
Ensure timely and accurate filing of all required financial statement disclosures.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing guidance and ensuring continued development and growth.
Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture within the revenue accounting function, encouraging professional growth and continuous improvement.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Sales, IT, Legal, Tax, and other business units to stay aligned on accounting policies, ensuring compliance with regulatory changes, and supporting the needs of the business.
Provide ongoing education and guidance to various departments on revenue and lease accounting matters.
What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team?
You will be joining the Accounting Team, reporting to Chief Accounting Officer. The Accounting function includes SEC reporting & equity, revenue accounting, and general and operational accounting professionals.

Where is the role located?
There is a strong preference for a hybrid role based in our Waltham Headquarters, at least 3 days per week.
What is the salary range?
The base salary range for this full-time position is $165,000 - $185,000, + bonus + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or equivalent professional designation preferred.
Experience & Skills
8+ years of experience in accounting, with at least 5 years in a revenue accounting leadership role within a public company environment.
Strong technical knowledge of ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition), and SOX compliance, with ASC 842 lessor accounting a plus.
Experience with complex revenue contracts, multi-element arrangements, and lease accounting in a public company setting.
Experience managing external audits and coordinating with auditors for SOX and financial audits.
Previous experience with financial reporting for publicly traded companies, including SEC filings.
Proficiency with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) and revenue recognition software. Advanced Excel and financial modeling skills.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
