Fresenius Medical Center Communications Manager in Waltham, Massachusetts


Responsible for supporting the planning, development, implementation and management of internal, external, digital and medical office communications strategies and tactics to drive awareness among key audiences of Fresenius Medical Care North America (FMCNA). Works cross functionally to assist in the alignment of communications across the organization. This generalist position provides exposure to the entire corporate communications team and is responsible for educating our physicians, media, legislators, patients, caregivers, employees and the general public about FMCNA. He/she should be a passionate and intuitive communications tactician with the relevant capabilities, strategic thinking and superb writing skills to contribute to a dynamic, high-performing, high-energy team.


Public Relations

  • Monitor media for coverage of FMCNA and for healthcare trends, milestones

  • Help with the development of reports, plans and dashboards

  • Post stories to Wordpress and resize images for newsroom

  • Issue news releases

  • Write stories and other content for website/online newsroom

  • Support internal Public Relations team and external agency with research for media pitching, story development, pitch drafting and media outreach

  • Assist with award submissions

  • Conduct research, competitive analysis


  • Web content management (Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla)

  • HTML email editing (Constant Contact, MailChimp, etc.)

  • Content analytics (Google Analytics)

Internal Communications

  • Professional-level writing, storytelling and social media abilities as well as a track record at managing complex projects from start to finish

  • Work closely with Employee Communications colleagues as well as independently, partner with business leaders/subject matter experts to develop and implement multi-channel communication plans that inform, engage and motivate employees

  • Identify, develop and draft compelling stories to be shared internally and externally that support our communication priorities

Medical Office Communications

  • Assist with the announcement of news milestones and data; support Public Relations team and agency in promoting news

  • Support internal clients and Medical Office Communications at medical conferences

  • Assist with the creation of the Broadcast Network and live events production

  • Develop content for the newsroom and Medical Office communications to physicians

Community Relations

  • Support our clinic staff as they navigate community engagement opportunities

  • Research opportunities with established and new charitable, association and membership partners

  • Support development of volunteerism toolkits; employee involvement tracking and reporting

  • Track charitable contributions to FMC Foundation; steward donors appropriately

  • Identify good-deed doers across the company; develop story content for use across channels


  • Assist with various projects as assigned by direct supervisor

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Advanced Degree desirable

  • Concentrations in Management, Marketing, Communications or Public Relations preferred


  • 4-6 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, media relations, internal communications, marketing or digital communications

  • Superb writing, editing and proofreading skills

  • Direct experience managing and partnering with agencies and consultants

  • An analytic and strategic approach to public relations and communications planning tied to metrics

  • Experience in a large, complex, matrix organization

  • Superior judgment and comfort level working with confidential, sensitive and proprietary information

  • Ability to translate complex, scientific information into layman’s terms

  • Proven ability to apply strategies to paid, earned and owned media plans

  • Excellent communications skills (written, visual, verbal, presentation)

  • Self-motivated with a performance-driven attitude

  • Ability to partner and work seamlessly with others outside of the department, including leadership

  • Demonstrated proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and email applications

  • Strong customer service skills with an ability to work under pressure in an organized manner

  • Excellent problem solving and strategic thinking skills
