Title: Business Development and Corporate Strategy Associate
Location: Waltham, MA
Reports to: Vice President of Business Development
In this critical role, the Business Development Associate will have responsibility for evaluating growth opportunities for ElevateBio. ElevateBio is a dynamic, high-growth, and intellectually challenging workplace with many projects that span Corporate Strategy, IP and R&D strategy, financings, BD deals, and competitive analyses. The successful candidate will be a scientifically and intellectually curious self-starter who can tackle daunting tasks by breaking them down into solvable parts. Must be deeply passionate about and driven by the goal of helping patients. This individual will be a key member of ElevateBio’s Business Development group. An ideal candidate will have a scientific or engineering undergraduate background, or 1-2 years of healthcare consulting experience.
Work as an integral part of the business development team to strengthen ElevateBio’s position in the cell and gene therapy and regenerative medicine space
Support corporate licensing and partnering efforts (e.g., negotiation, coordination of due diligence activities, drafting research plans, financial analysis, etc.)
Identify, source and evaluate potential commercial partners
Work with Business Development and R&D team to craft external partnering presentations
Significant opportunity to learn how to properly read a variety of business and R&D agreements, and real time negotiation practice
Create financial models, establish template models and assumptions built from industry benchmarks that are sensitive to the specific dynamics of Elevate’s business
Identify strategic collaborations with academic institutions and support diligence and negotiation efforts
Lead the monitoring of current landscape and competitive positioning for ElevateBio and subsidiaries
Create and own investor and external-facing materials for ElevateBio companies, including board decks
Think creatively about ElevateBio’s business strategy, identify and foster new ideas and help make them a reality
Demonstrated ability to build rapport with senior leaders as well as bench scientists- outstanding collaboration skills with colleagues is essential for success in this job.
Strong analytical skills required to provide sound inputs into financial evaluations
A passion for the biotech industry and a scientific or engineering background preferred
Strong communication and leadership skills necessary to effectively lead diligence teams and navigate the ElevateBio corporate structure, i.e., possessing organizational savvy.
Ability to build stories in presentations and to present them clearly and strongly
Strong organizational skills to own data across the BD team
Undergraduate science or engineering degree preferred
1-2 years in management consulting
This is a tremendous pre-MBA role with an opportunity to learn corporate strategy and business development skills that are usually reserved for post-MBA roles
