Description:

The Finance Director will play a key role in Finance by providing the financial and related operational support for our National Geographic Learning School business unit, with a strong focus on the middle school and high school market and digital learning.

Responsibilities include focusing on internal controls related to the Order to Cash process, building and maintaining data driven revenue forecasts and profitability analyses.

The incumbent should have effective communication skills with a track record of establishing collaborative business relationships with cross functional teams within an organization. This role will have a combination of Financial Planning & Analysis, Revenue Recognition and Internal Controls experience to add value to the organization.

What You Will Do Here:

  • Responsible for the development, maintenance and improvement of core reporting outputs, driving increased automation and consistency in information provided. Develop detailed financial and analytical models to improve visibility into business performance and support critical initiatives.

  • Assist with the Go-to-Market planning, growth strategy, business operations and data evaluation. Projects and deliverables range from building a scalable reporting infrastructure, supporting the creation of the product growth strategy, and key performance metric review.

  • Develop scorecards and models that add functionality to existing reporting tools in an efficient manner to support key stakeholders.

  • Partner with cross functional business partners to implement best practices, system enhancements, continuous process improvements as it relates to the Quote to Cash process; increase efficiency and ensure scalability; document procedures; enhance a strong internal controls environment.

  • Performs special projects and analyses on an ad-hoc basis, as required.

Skills You Will Need Here:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required, MBA a plus.

  • Public accounting experience and CPA preferred.

  • Minimum of 7 years of dynamic accounting leadership experience with strong knowledge of GAAP, revenue recognition (ASC 606) and contract review, internal controls / SOX compliance, segment reporting and the close process.

  • Leadership experience in operational finance roles in market facing businesses and/or service functions with full P&L responsibility

  • Strong cross-functional leadership experience to influence, drive and implement change.

  • Ability to analyze problems, actively strategize to resolve such problems, good attention to detail, solid organization skills, and a proven track record of process improvement and standardization.

  • Solid experience of designing and instituting policies and procedures that will maintain or enhance a strong control environment.

  • Ability to operate effectively and efficiently under time pressures and deadlines.

  • Advanced usage of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint; experience with Hyperion, JD Edwards and IBM Cognos a plus.

  • Experience managing large data sets using multiple databases or analytical tools is a must; experience with SQL, Alteryx, Tableau, R, or other advanced analytical tools is a plus.

  • High mathematical and analytical skills required; ability to define problems, develop data driven analyses, establish facts and draw conclusions; ability to produce clear reports and presentations; overall, a logical problem solver.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact well with all levels within the Company.
