Scope of Position: As part of the Corning Life Sciences Market & Business Strategy Team, this role will be responsible for leading strategy development activities for assigned areas of focus. This will include major strategy development components of 1) opportunity identification, including market and competitive assessment and prioritization; 2) plan to win, including customer needs assessments, mapping to Corning capabilities considering both technology and business models; and 3) business case development. In addition, certain assignments may include further strategy development or expansion in existing business areas, functions, or geographies. Objectives will be achieved through a combination of individual contributions and high levels of collaboration spanning many functional areas. In addition to primary responsibilities noted above, the role is expected to be a contributing member of the larger Strategy and Business Development function. Project assignments will be determined as business needs require and may span Market Intelligence, Strategic Planning, and External Development. Time will flex between ongoing strategy development activities and project-based assignments.
Day to Day Responsibilities:
Conduct market research – primary and secondary – related to existing or new business
Analyses includes areas such as: market research, product preference, technology and product potential, market size, penetration, and trends covering both regional and global views
Perform various analytics – financial, comparative, etc. to develop understanding of market and competitive environment, and triangulation of potential opportunities for Corning Life Sciences
Build market and customer led perspectives on potential Corning Life Sciences opportunities
Effectively engage to design and pursue Voice of Customer feedback to refine and validate hypothesis and analyze and identify themes
Define and develop points of view regarding strategic choices for the business, supported by thorough analysis and comprehensive market and customer understanding
Create comprehensive business case models to articulate benefits, cost and risks. Develop and present business proposals for action, including early-stage implementation planning
Develop PowerPoint, models, and other necessary documents that effectively communicate results of efforts and recommendations to various leadership / stakeholders within Corning Life Sciences
Complete work goals are attained without appreciable supervisory direction and are reviewed for desired results from a relatively long-term perspective
Success factors include: timely delivery of high quality, actionable strategy development work; business adoption of proposals including business case; and building high levels of engagement and support from key stakeholders
Required Education: BS in Business, Engineering, Biological Sciences, or related field; MBA or related advanced degree strongly preferred
Required Years and Area of Experience: 8+ years (Life Sciences preferred) in strategic development and planning, business development and/or technical background
Required Skills:
Developing business case recommendations for executive review & approval
Cross-Functional team leadership experience
Advanced analytical skills and use of associated tools
Program or project management skills
General Life Science product / process knowledge
Ability to leverage Technology and Market Expertise
Strong verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills
Travel Requirements: 10%
Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:
Complimentary technical / scientific knowledge in related Life Science discipline(s)
Experience within the Life Sciences/Medical Device or Diagnostics Industry
Work experience with a Fortune 500 company

The range for this position is $115,108.00 - $158,274.00. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
