Description:
This R&D Product Engineer opportunity is part of the Research and Development (R&D) Department of Xylem supporting design and development of new products, improvement of existing products, and sustaining engineering. An ideal candidate would be a self-starter with experience in mechanical design, analysis, materials, testing, data collection and analysis, and report writing. Also support installation, start-ups and field testing, troubleshooting products, repairs and maintenance to our water treatment equipment and products. There will also be hands-on work developing and executing test plans and communicating results in a timely manner to project team and upper management. This position will support the factory on performing issue root cause analysis, work with the team/other departments to resolve quality/factory related issues and propose solutions. This position will work closely with vendors and other departments, such as manufacturing, sales, and product management personnel. Duties include part design, 3D CAD, component and material selection, assembly design, and engineering documentation. The expectations are that we will work from a product roadmap from the product management team to drive growth and expansion of the product lines.
Role and Responsibilities:
Part design, material selection, design analysis, design documentation
Product design, development, testing, validation
Lead product troubleshooting, failure analysis, and root cause analysis
Manage projects, or sub projects, including timelines and budgets and work in an interdisciplinary team
Lead and guide technician(s) priority, workload, technical understanding
Write Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), test plans, and reports
Optimize designs for cost, manufacturability, and reliability/performance
Required Knowledge, Experience, Skills, and Qualifications
B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field required with 2+ years professional experience preferred. Masters degree is a plus.
Experience with hands-on work in a research and development environment including experience in piping and plumbing and water treatment technologies
Experience with water (i) electro-membrane separation technologies across water treatment applications; (ii) the use of electrochemical technologies for the removal of specific contaminants in water is a bonus
Knowledge of Bill of Materials (BOM) generation, and engineering change process and documentation
Project management experience (including budgeting/scheduling) and working in an interdisciplinary team preferred
Experience in 2D and 3D CAD and part design and documentation preferred. Autodesk inventor software is a strong plus
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, required
Proficient Microsoft Office Suite and quick to learn new software
Safety-first mindset, ability to follow all safety rules and wear all required safety equipment (PPE)
Knowledge of SAP or other ERP systems is a strong plus

Salary range:
$71,000.00 - $113,500.00
