State of Massachusetts Charge Nurse - Evenings (RN III) in Taunton, Massachusetts

Taunton State Hospital is seeking a candidate for the Nursing Services Department to function as Charge Nurse (Registered Nurse III), provide nursing care, custody and instruction to adult psychiatric patients on locked units; establishes nursing plan of care utilizing the Person-Centered Approach within the Recovery Model; assesses the health care needs of the patients and their families. Participates in admissions, discharges and related duties. _Please Note:_ *The selected candidate will work 40 hours per week on the second shift (2:45pm-11:15pm) with rotating weekends. The days off are: Week 1-Sunday/Wednesday; Week 2-Monday/Saturday. *_Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all inclusive):_ * Provides nursing care, custody and instruction to adult psychiatric patients on locked units within DMH. * Acts as the Charge Nurse and delegates and oversees the completion of tasks of licensed and non-licensed nursing staff assigned to the unit for their shift. * Ensures that optimum quality care is provided by serving as patient advocate, ensuring that patient confidentiality and maintaining the rights of all patients. * Gains the knowledge required to provide Patient Centered Care to all patients within the Recovery Model * Identifies and addresses patient needs by performing nursing assessments, developing nursing interventions and providing nursing care by following professional, hospital, departmental standards. * Acts as a role model for providing Recovery and Trauma informed care. * Provides quality psychiatric care to the patients with respect to their needs as defined by the age specific population served. _Preferred Qualifications:_ * Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency _About Taunton State Hospital_ Taunton State Hospital (TSH) operated by the Department of Mental Health (DMH) is a 45-bed inpatient facility that provides continuing care inpatient services to adults with major mental illnesses. The hospital is a leader in the successful integration of the Principles of Recovery and a rehabilitation philosophy into the treatment model and a part of the Southeast Area which works closely with the inpatient treatment teams to facilitate patients’ discharge back to the community. _Pre-Hire Process:_ A criminal background check will be completed on the recommended candidate as required by the regulations set forth by the Executive Office of Health and Human Services prior to the candidate being hired. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL LEVELS IN SERIES: Current and valid registration as a professional nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.* Recent graduates from an approved school of nursing must have applied for the first available registered nurse examination.
