Taunton State Hospital Carpenter I in Taunton, Massachusetts

Taunton State Hospital is seeking a qualified candidate for the Carpenter I position. The successful candidate erects, repairs, and alters wooden structures, cabinets, furniture, doors, windows, floors used on state property; repairs roofs having asphalt-based coverings, installs and repairs door and window hardware; installs floor coverings; erects scaffolding, concrete forms; ceiling systems, and wall stud systems.This position is 40 hours per week. The incumbent will work on the day shift from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Days off are Sunday and Saturday. Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all inclusive): Repairs buildings with appropriate construction materials and tools to maintain buildings and provide a safer environment for patients and staff. Installs, replaces, repairs, and adjusts all types of building hardware in a workman like manner so as to maintain this hardware and provide a safe and secure environment for patients and staff. Uses various woodworking machines, power tools, and hand tools in a safe manner to shape, size, cut, and attach building materials. Erects staging, ladders, and scaffolding in such a manner as to provide a safe working platform for workmen to stand on. Operates state vehicles in a safe manner to provide transportation for personnel, equipment, and materials to work site. Repairs sheet goods, floor coverings, and installs floor tiles according to established practice to provide a safe and esthetically appealing environment. Installs and repairs suspended ceiling systems according to standard practice to provide a safe and esthetically appealing environment. Makes, fastens, and installs frames for wall hangings, bulletin boards, and pictures, according to established practice to provide space for notices and for environmental decoration. Installs and repair toilet partitions and related hardware according to established procedure to provide a safe and clean environment. Installs and repairs roll roofing and asphalt shingle materials on roofs, according to established procedure to provide a sound, leak-free roof system on a building. Installs and repairs flashings, downspouts, wood, aluminum, and plastic gutters, or buildings, according to established procedure to provide a sound, leak-free drainage system to roofs of a building. Installs and repair dry wall materials and metal studding, according to established practice to provide building code accepted, fire resistant wall structures and other partitions. Minimum Entrance Requirements: Two years of full time, or equivalent, part time experience in carpentry, woodworking or cabinet making work. Substitutions: diploma or certificate from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school, at high school level, with a major in carpentry, woodworking or cabinet making may be substituted for the required experience. Valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operators License (Class D) or equivalent in the state in which you reside. First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.Minimum Entrance Substitutions: A diploma or certificate from a recognized trade, technical or vocational school, at high school level or higher, with a major in carpentry, woodworking or cabinetmaking may be substituted for the required experience.
