Jewish Community Center Youth and Family Director in Springfield, Massachusetts

POSITION SUMMARY__

The Youth and Family Director is responsible for overseeing youth-related and Jewish family programming, initiatives and projects. This employee creates community outreach and engagement opportunities, plans and implements Jewish holiday programming, and supports the growth of various youth & teen programs. The Youth and Family Director works collaboratively with other departments to create and deliver high-quality programs for members and the community.

All employees of the Springfield JCC are responsible for creating relationships with the members, to add value to their membership, and to enhance their sense of belonging with the JCC community.

**ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

* Management and Supervision*

  • Directly supervise and support the Summer Camp Director, Kids Space/CAP Director, Teen Coordinator and J-Theater contract workers
  • Ensure that all department staff are oriented and trained appropriately to ensure the highest levels of program delivery and standards
  • Monitor program enrollment and billing with administrative team
  • Find and support the application process and administration of grants
  • Identify and develop community outreach opportunities that will bring value to the Youth and Family department
  • Participate in community-wide events
  • Strategize and create marketing materials in partnership with the Program Directors and Marketing Director
  • Strategize and create communications materials on behalf of all youth and family services
  • Attend staff and project meetings as required
  • Perform other duties and assume additional responsibilities as needed

Summer Camp

Supervise Camp Director in the following:

  • Lead the camp team in designing, delivering, and evaluating camp programs to ensure they meet the needs and interests of campers
  • Oversee daily operation of camp, including administration, camper care, staff supervision, and camp licensing
  • Ensure programming contains engaging and relevant Judaic content
  • Develop new and maintain existing camping programs to ensure participation, positive membership growth, and sustainability, and add value to JCC membership

Afterschool and Out-Of-School

Supervise Kids Space/CAP Director in the following:

  • Support enrichment programs and outreach with offsite instructors
  • Oversee the planning and implementation of all Vacation Camps Coordinate programming with area public schools
  • Create annual calendars of events to be used agency-wide
  • Provide oversight and assistance with all snow day programs/out-of-school programs

Teen

Supervise Teen Coordinator in the following:

  • Creating programming to engage teens in the JCC
  • Serving as a staff person for JCC Maccabi Games and ArtsFest
  • Ensure the building and maintenance of relationships with other teen-service organizations in the Jewish community and in the greater Pioneer Valley community
  • Creating casual engagement opportunities and space design to help teens feel welcome

J-Theater__

Manage the contract employee who handles the J's Youth Theater program

  • Ensure creation of production season and calendar for J- Theater
  • Assist in coordinating theater programming staff, including directors, set designers and others
  • Assist in organizing and running front-of-house during performances
  • Oversee the JCC's family engagement programs including the Purim Carnival, Hanukkah and Passover Festivals, and annual Touch A Truck Event
  • Create Jewish holiday displays at JCC building and online
  • Partner with other departments to run additional programs for families
  • Create programming that enhances caregiver-to-caregiver relationships and provides support for families (educational, social, and philanthropic opportunities)

Family Programming

Collaborate with the Jewish Educator to help

Minimum Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated effective communication skills - both verbal and written
  • Ability to multitask effectively under pressure
  • Excellent customer service orientation
  • Ability to develop and maintain an environment that fosters maximum physical, social, cognitive, and emotional development of children
  • Possess knowledge of local and MA state licensing requirements for children's programs

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • BA or BS in Education, Child Development, Jewish Communal Service, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years of experience administering youth programs. Previous teaching experience and/or supervisory experience in camp setting preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, proficient in Google documents and calendar
  • Strong management skills, including the ability to inspire, train, and lead staff members
  • Proficient in use of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest
  • Understanding of the Jewish community, Jewish culture, Jewish history, and Jewish values

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Community Center environment with both office and program responsibilities
  • Flexibility in work schedule is necessary based on the needs of the program, which may include some evenings, weekends, and overnight events

Salary:

55,000 - 65,000

The Springfield Jewish Community Center is a welcoming and vibrant presence in western Massachusetts on the Longmeadow/Springfield line. The JCC's 80,000 sq. ft. facility and sits on 23 acres of land and includes a premier health, fitness, and aquatics center (including an indoor pool); preschool; and grounds including three playgrounds, ropes course, basketball and tennis courts, and sports fields.
