POSITION PURPOSE
At Mercy Medical Center the Student Nurse Internship (SNI) is an intensive 8-week summer program. Program starts May 19, 2025.
What you will do
Work alongside a registered nurse in an assistive role
Participate in patient care activities under the direct supervision of the registered nurse
Participate in educational activities designed to reinforce learning in the clinical practice environment
Minimum Qualifications
Enrolled in an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN)
Entering the final year of a(n) ADN or BSN program with graduation expected by Spring 2026 preferred.
American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS Healthcare Provider Certified
GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred

- An updated resume reflecting your clinical experience rotation (where and when completed) and your anticipated graduation date.

Position Highlights and Benefits
After successful completion of the 8-week summer program, the SNI may be able to continue their employment within Trinity Health Of New England in a per diem position. They will be assigned to a nurse mentor who continues to guide their learning and contributions within the clinical practice environment.
SNIs in good standing will be invited to apply for graduate nurse positions and may start once they enter their last semester of their senior year. Once licensed they will join a cohort in our Vizient Nurse Residency Program which is designed to support and help new graduate nurses as they transition into professional practice. The program offers 12 months of structured support for newly licensed registered nurses. Our hope and expectation are all eligible SNIs will secure a position as a graduate nurse prior to completing their final semesterof nursing studies.
Work Hours/Shift: Candidates must be able to commit to the following timeline & milestones:
Week 1:
- Orientation and training
Weeks 2 - 8:
Scheduled for three 12-hour clinical shifts per week
May be expected to work any shift based on preceptor’s schedule
Will be expected to work every other weekend based n preceptor’s schedule
Participate in educational activities
Post internship:
- Work Per Diem as able. Your hours will be scheduled with your Nurse Manager and the needs of the unit.
