Mercy Medical Center, Springfield, MA

Come and lead our dedicated team of pharmacy professionals. You would manage the professional and technical personnel in the day-to-day operations of two pharmacy departments. Responsibilities include staffing, inpatient and outpatient dispensing, controlled substance management and all associated functions. Assists department leadership in understanding customer requirements and developing goals to achieve a high and consistent level of service in compliance with hospital, state, federal and the Joint Commission policies and regulations.

What you will do

  • Collaborates as necessary with Regional Director in preparing and monitoring budget.

  • Coordinates work schedules, determines work priorities, and assigns duties to the pharmacy staff.

  • Responsible for the hiring, training and development, competencies, and performance evaluations of the pharmacy staff. Works with Human Resources in addressing colleague issues including corrective action measures and termination of personnel under his/her supervision.

  • Supervises the purchasing, storing, preparation and dispensing of all medications and parenteral products in compliance with state, federal (340B), USP Ch <797>, department policies and manufacturer’s guidelines. Ensures all medications are delivered to the correct patient in a timely manner.

  • Collaborates with the Springfield Market Clinical Coordinator in assessing the need for non-formulary items and follows-up according to department policy.

  • Ensures compliance with MA EPA hazardous waste guidelines.

  • Oversees controlled drug management to ensure compliance with hospital, state, and federal regulations.

  • Collaborates with Clinical Coordinator and staff to ensure lab data is being assessed and drug interactions documented in compliance with department policy.

  • Advises other health care professionals on the proper administration of medications, drug interactions, incompatibilities, and side effects.

  • Active participant in department programs and projects; works with department leadership to provide input to continually improve department operations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of clinical experience and one (1) to three (3) years of management experience OR requires the completion of a Pharm D with one (1) to three (3) of clinical experience and one (1) to three (3) years of management experience.

  • Licensure required as a Pharmacist by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

  • Work requires the ability to counsel and educate patients and their families; communicate effectively with pharmacy staff, physicians and other health care professionals, and delegate effectively.

  • Work requires competency in providing direct patient care to neonate, pediatric, adolescent, young adult, adult and geriatric patients.

  • Work requires education and/or training in TQM and CQI principles.
