Description:

Position Purpose: The Health Information Management Specialist is responsible for filling and retrieving patient medical records. They will file loose material such as lab reports, x-rays, and discharged records into patient’s folders as well as make records available as requested by nursing units, emergency services and other requesting parties.

What you will do:

  • Accurately files patient medical records and reports in alphabetical, terminal digit, or other prescribed order according to department policy and procedure.

  • Promptly retrieves the appropriate medical records and appropriate dates of services requested by external auditors, hospital personnel, Release of Information staff and other health care providers. Verifies active primary and secondary third-party payer insurance coverage eligibility with the payers via prescribes format.

  • Using the department’s chart tracking software, responsible for the electronic signing in and out of medical records in order to efficiently track the location of patient medical records.

  • Willingly performs other duties as assigned. Duties can be added to position depending on necessity of tasks within the department in order to support departmental objectives.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Previous experience in a hospital medical record department.

  • Computer experience.
