MassMutual Director of Business Analytics in Springfield, Massachusetts

The Opportunity

As a Director of Business Analytics, you will be a critical member of the Business Intelligence leadership team, tasked with driving the strategic vision and tactical operation of information delivery across the organization. This role will work closely with business leaders, leveraging data and analytics to identify and solve problems and provide insight into business performance and opportunity. You will have the opportunity to engage with leaders to explore and explain, helping to craft stories to illustrate the impacts to MassMutual’s business through the lens of data. The Team

The Reporting & Analytics team as a part of the larger Business Intelligence organization supports MMUS Insurance Operations by providing internal business partners with information through an industry leading combination of data visualization and business analytics. Plainly put, we help real people find meaning in their data and use that meaning to create positive impact. We respond to numerous requests for information daily while also proactively engaging internal partners; using data and analytics to drive improvement in MassMutual’s business. We accomplish this by utilizing cutting-edge analytics technology to blend significant amounts of data into digestible pieces of quality and actionable information, giving leaders everything they need to make tactical and strategic business decisions. MMUS Insurance Operations is comprised of all service operations for our life & disability, annuity and long-term care businesses from Client Services through Claims.

The Impact:

  • Lead a team of developers and data analysts supporting MMUS Insurance Operations, Fraud Operations, and Worksite Sales & Operations

  • Participate as a member of the Business Intelligence leadership team to achieve department specific goals and drive organizational performance

  • Keep the team current on industry best practices, ideas, and technologies within data visualization and analytics

  • Partner with business area leaders to drive improvement using data and analytics

  • Oversee operational, analytical, and executive dashboard design and development

  • Assist analysts and developers with developing, deriving meaning from, and communicating descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive analytics findings

  • Provide coaching to cross-functional Agile delivery teams

  • Ensure high availability and high performance of all on-demand information delivery environments

  • Encourage experimentation with new ideas and methods to better draw insight from data

  • Establish a vision for the team that inspires and engages them

The Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or analytical field or a Bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience

  • 3-5 years leading technical teams or analytical projects

  • Ability to develop technical resources and assist with highly complex analytics problems

  • Strong working knowledge with Business Intelligence & Analytics tools such as Tableau, Alteryx, Microstrategy, Power BI

  • Experience with data management/architecture and dimensional models

The Ideal Qualifications

  • Ability to focus on strategic goals and development without losing sight of day-to-day needs and complexities

  • Knowledge of Agile/Scrum project management methodologies

  • Analytical thinker with the ability to translate statistical analysis into business impact for leaders

  • Exposure to R, Python, or similar programming languages

  • Ability to lead others through considerable business and technological change

  • Strong communication skills and ability to properly listen and understand
