The Team
The Finance Data Management team, within Controller’s group, manages financial data domains used by MassMutual. The team take the lead in three areas: data innovation & efficiency, data governance, and connecting business and technology. The data team supports data sourced from multiple financial applications including general ledger, sub-ledgers, planning, reporting, and treasury tools. Our vision is to be the expert data management function to champion and democratize optimized financial data, in turn enabling self-service across Corporate Finance to be a best-in-class strategic finance team.

We are looking for a data management professional who can deliver business value by supporting financial data enablement, governance, and consumption.
The key responsibilities:
Data Operations:
Ensures data pipelines in assigned domain deliver accurate, complete, and reliable data
Communicates to stakeholders when there are data issues
First line of defense for production issues identified by business users – validate issue and resolve (working with IT as necessary)
Learn the data flow including the technical specifications for the data, transformation rules, and workflow
Assesses the data controls, checks for completeness, and reconciliations and defines & drives enhancements if needed
Consultant to business teams with regard to data tools, processes (including access), and locating data.
Data Governance:
Data Quality: identifies and corrects data quality issues to ensure normalization and creation of clean, reliable data
Identifies critical data elements (CDEs) and documents their metadata and lineage
Generally understands the business processes that create the CDEs and may impact data quality
Monitors issues during daily data loads and works with IT to improve data quality
Documents data quality and transformation rules appropriately
Maintains MassMutual internal control standards
Data Stewardship:
Works with data owners to translate business requirements to data requirements
Provides updates on domain initiatives at monthly or quarterly data owner/data steward meetings/forums
Builds a strong engagement with IT organization to manage data on-boarding to the finance schema within the Enterprise data lake
Provides support to data projects to ensure deliverables meet data governance standards
The Minimum Qualifications
4+ years of work experience in the financial data management role and a bachelor’s degree in computer science, data science/engineering, statistics, finance, or accounting
2+ years’ experience in data governance
Innate desire to provide excellent service to clients
Advanced SQL knowledge/experience
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deliverables and stakeholders
Troubleshooting: Experience with troubleshooting and root cause analysis to determine and remediate potential issues
Reporting: Experience with data reporting (e.g. Microstrategy, Tableau) and data cataloging tools (e.g. Alation)
Ability to think critically and demonstrate good judgment
Excellent interpersonal and verbal skills
Organized and detail-oriented
The Ideal Qualifications
5+ years of work experience in the financial data management role
Experience in data domain management of financial data for financial shared services, financial or regulatory reporting
Lead role in data governance
Mastery SQL knowledge/experience
Experience in a Corporate Finance function
Data domain owner for finance data (e.g. Capital, Invested Assets, Expenses)
Excellent relationship building, influencing, and communication skills
Ability to think critically and apply good judgment
Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple deliverables
MBA, CDMP (or similar) certification
