Description:
Trinity Health Of New England is looking for an experienced Cytotechnologist to join our team of mission-driven healthcare innovators located in Life Labs at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield, MA. This person is responsible for preparing cell samples for microscopic examination to detect cell changes caused by disease process. In doing so, takes smears of cell samples, stains samples, and places smears on slides. Examines slides and prepares initial findings. Routes findings to Pathologist for diagnosis of disease and illness. Develops and conducts research into new technologies, writing and updating procedures as needed. Assumes responsibility for problem solving and troubleshooting.

Position Hours:

You Will Be Responsible For:
Exceptional Care : Obtaining and/or processing specimens utilizing appropriate techniques for maintaining the integrity and identification of the patient and/or specimen in relation to the test performed. Detect minute abnormalities in cell sizes, shapes, and color. Mounts slides and examines cellular samples microscopically for evidence of cancer or other disease and illness.
Confirms all results using departmental guidelines, notifies appropriate health care professional of all critical and/or stat results and uses proper documentation procedures. Recognizes and appreciates that each employee’s work is valuable and contributes to the success of our Mission.
Excellent Quality :Adhere to laboratory’s quality control policies and document all quality control activities. Ensure all corporate safety, quality control and quality assurance standards are met.
Strong Educator: Researches new technologies, participates in proficiency testing, provides supervisory leadership within the department as required. Maintains competency associated with the profession of Cytotechnology.

Technical Familiarity: Maintains all necessary records and periodically prepares statistical reports of work performed such as number of cases received, types of specimens handled, percent of abnormal findings, and so forth. Maintains files of positive and negative findings, and retrieves reports and slides as requested.
Demonstrates appropriate use of the LIS system to complete assigned tasks. Understanding in the operation/maintenance of Lab equipment, computer-based applications (email, and standard applications such as Microsoft Office).
Active Teamwork : Demonstrates problem solving, conflict resolution, and positive communication through teamwork.
What you need:
Education: Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college / university and successful completion of one year formal training in cytology as approved by the American Medical Association or the American Society of Cytology.
Experience: Experience as a Cytotechnologist preferred.
Certification: CT (ASCP) required. A registered CT must have successfully completed a registration exam such as those given by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. Note for New Hires – nonregistered CT: Must be eligible to sit for ASCP registration exam and must successfully pass within one year of hire.
Job Skills : Minimum of one year of experience in a CAP accredited Cytology Laboratory. Must be proficient in screening and interpreting specimens from all body sites.
