Baystate Health Child Psych Specialist Social Worker LMHC/LICSW in Springfield, Massachusetts
Under the direction of the MCPAP Medical Director, the Behavioral Health Clinician II - Outpatient (“BHC-II”) provides clinical services to children, adolescents, and families being referred for consultation and diagnostic evaluation to the Baystate MCPAP team by their primary care provider. Demonstrates master's level knowledge of developmental stages, behavioral health diagnoses, current treatment modalities, ethical guidelines, therapeutic processes, as well as knowledge and experience relevant to any special population to which the MCPAP program provides consultation services (such as children and adolescents, young adults, and families presenting with acute mental health concerns).
Conduct child/adolescent/young adult diagnostic-psychosocial and consultations referred by primary care physicians in the Western MA region.
Consult with pediatricians, behavioral/mental health providers in the community, schools, and other agencies to coordinate care/treatment planning.
Provide consultation, short term therapy as needed and resource and referral to outpatient therapists and other providers for patient’s ongoing care.
Train and supervise social work intern(s) as part of their training in understanding the diagnostic evaluation process; mental health systems; and care coordination in accessing care.
Provide phone consultation, triage and follow up with primary care practices as needed on the mental health care and needs of their patients.
Serve as instructor or orient as needed medical students/psychiatry residents regarding MCPAP and/or community resources
Act as liaison with community and agencies and develop/optimize/update referral network.
Required Work Experience:
Three or more years of experience in providing assessment and / or treatment in outpatient mental health settings with a primary focus on children, adolescents, and families.
Preferred Work Experience:
Experience working in integrated behavioral health settings with collaboration with medical providers and / or primary care providers working with children and adolescents
Experience performing diagnostic evaluations for children and adolescents
Skills and Competencies:
Clinical assessment, brief, evidence-based psychotherapy techniques, administration and interpretation of behavioral health screening instruments, team-based collaboration skills.
Knowledge of medical terminology and of health care systems.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Excellent communication skills, written and oral.
Knowledgebase related to issues of cultural competence.
Ability to work collaboratively with MCPAP team members, consumers, and primary care practitioners / practice staff making referrals to the program
Schedule: 30-hours M-F
