Dartmouth Public Schools Cafeteria Manager in South Dartmouth, Massachusetts

Job Goal: To ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the assigned schools for the School Nutrition Department. SUMMARY DESCRIPTION of ABILITY: The Cafeteria Manager performs a variety of job functions essential to the successful operation of the cafeteria. The job functions include food production; sanitation, safety, and security; customer service; program regulations and accountability; equipment use and care; and professional excellence. The Cafeteria Manager works under the supervision of the School Nutrition Director in partnership with other staff in the school nutrition program. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Opens kitchen daily and begins set-up. Prepares the kitchen forthe opening and closing of the school year. Prepares and oversees production of all school meals according to the planned menu. Supervises production and ultimate serving of meals according to planned menus. Orders, receives, and verifies supply delivery and rotates into existing stock. Maintains accurate production records. Conducts and assigns tasks related to physical inventory by properly rotating all products with the FIFO system of inventory, receives deliveries, and follows storage procedures. Reports any inventory or delivery irregularities or theft to the School Nutrition Director. Sets up cash registers, counts, and reconciles daily receipts. Prepares daily bank deposits. Supervises the maintenance of a high degree of sanitation and cleanliness in the kitchen and storage facilities. Supervises and maintains proper storage of all supplies and goods that are needed for food service. Trains assign and direct the work activities of other cafeteria staff. Checks freezers, refrigerators, and dishwashers to be sure proper operating temperature is being maintained and sanitation standards are being upheld. Maintains a safe working environment, enforcing safety guidelines and building awareness about safety, and maintaining standards of regulatory agencies. Reports safety, sanitary and fire hazards immediately to School Nutrition Director and Director of Maintenance Obtains and maintains appropriate certifications and professional development as required. Skilled in customer service and continuous program improvement. Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students. Ability to work independently, under pressure, and/or with frequent interruptions. Follows the direction of the School Nutrition Director to complete work assignments and work schedule. Completes responsibilities and participates in training opportunities to meet the needs of school policy, menu, and compliance regulations. Maintains flexibility in accepting work as assigned. Reports to work on time and in the proper designated attire. Other duties as assigned to ensure optimal program operation. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to perform work requiring sustained moderate physical effort, movement of objects weighing 40- 60 pounds, operation of commercial school nutrition equipment, continuous standing, and variations in temperature. (Special requirements such as lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing, twisting, and turning.) QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS: School nutrition training and work experience in a school or other institutional school nutrition setting and operation of commercial foodservice equipment preferred. Baseline computer experience with Google Suite, email, and POS cash register systems. Completion of ongoing training and education programs as required provided by the district, as well as independent study to perform effectively in the position. ServSafe certified, or able to obtain certification within 6 months of hire. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND WORK ASSIGNMENTS Throughout the year, in order to meet the federal professional standards training requirements of10 hours annually for Managers, employees will receive training via a variety of methods, such as webinars, online.
