RESIDENTIAL SUPPORT STAFF QUALIFICATIONS 1. High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred. 2. Ability to comprehend and write English 3. Physical capabilities to perform direct care duties - Essential Duties, Note B 4. Possession of: - valid driver?s license - safe driving record - agreement to use one?s personal vehicle for businness 5. Experience working with people with developmental disabilities preferred. 6. Communicates effectively, accepts and offers support and feedback and always strives to maintain positive relationships with all agency members. ESSENTIAL DUTIES 1. Supervise, support, and maintain the safety of assigned individuals. 2. Provide support, training and assistance to individuals with personal hygiene, daily living skills, recreation, and/or other skills as determined by the individual?s ISP. 3. Participate as a team member in the ISP process and in person-centered planning as applicable. 4. Implement behavioral and therapeutic support plans. 5. Provide case management responsibilities and/or service documentation requirements as assigned and defined by the supervisor. 6. Attend meetings to facilitate participant progress, Agency growth or general communication. 7. Provide training, support and assistance as necessary to aid people in adapting to and participating in community environments. 8. Attend all required trainings and maintain required certifications. 9. Attend work on a regular, consistent basis. 10. Provide or facilitate transportation arrangements reinforcing the use of natural supports when possible. 11. Perform all duties in conformance to, or in recognition of existing Agency philosophy, policies and procedures. 12. Assist individuals with medical appointments as necessary. 13. Administer and document medication in accordance with DDS regulations. 14. Ensure all required documentation is completed which includes: progress notes; program data; medication; cleaning checklist; daily log/staff communication; finances; and time slips. Note: A. Duties pertaining to participant assistance shall be performed in a dignified and supportive manner so as to not diminish a person?s self-identity or self-esteem. B. Required physical assistance including: transferring people to and from wheelchairs, or other adaptive equipment; utilizing physical restraints with some individuals and demonstrating CPR certification skills on the floor. OTHER DUTIES 1. Assume advocacy role as necessary for legal, civil, and human rights and for participation in community and social opportunities. 2. Evaluate appropriateness of community placements relative to work, recreation or other social opportunities. 3. Look for opportunities to develop natural supports with intent of minimizing paid staff supervision. 4. Assist other staff with participants, whenever necessary. WORKING CONDITIONS Employee assignments and work schedules are subject to change contingent upon the needs of individual participants or groups of participants. Employees are required to assist participants who may demonstrate aggressive or self- injurious behavior through direct intervention and conformance with behavioral programs.
