State of Massachusetts Licensed Practical Nurse - Seasonal 2nd Shift in Pocasset, Massachusetts

The Department of Mental Health (DMH) is seeking an exceptional Licensed Practical Nurse to fill two positions on second shift. Oversees the maintenance of a safe, secure, and therapeutic ward environment by participating in the coordination of staff assignments with the charge nurse; provides total nursing care and serves as the primary teacher for medication issues and groups. Serves as a role model and provides leadership to staff in lower classifications. Maintain a person centered, trauma informed atmosphere and professional performance.

_Please Note: This is a Seasonal position for an anticipated duration of 90 days and is 40 hours per week._* The selected candidate will work 3:00pm to 11:30 pm with Rotating Weekends.*

_Duties and Responsibilities (these are a general summary and not all inclusive):_

  • Provides direct care to patients in assigned area including activities of daily living, meal supervision, escorts responsibility for group activities as assigned, and orientation of patients to the ward.

  • Administers treatments and medications as ordered and according to hospital policy.

  • Develops therapeutic relationships with individual patients, groups, and family members to facilitate continuity of care.

  • Documents pertinent patient care information in the medical record.

  • Provides related health care education to patients and family according to nursing care plan and multidisciplinary treatment plan.

_Required Qualifications:_

  • Working knowledge of the established nursing procedures for the administration of medications.

  • Current licensure in Commonwealth of Massachusetts as Licensed Practical Nurse

  • Ability to read, write speak, and comprehend English to communicate effectively with a diverse group of patients, employees, and supervisors.

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions and communicate effectively in oral expression.

_Preferred Qualifications:_

  • Trained on de-escalation and nonviolent crisis intervention procedures.

  • Given the population served, bilingual or multilingual fluency.

Cape & Islands Site / Pocasset Mental Health Center provide comprehensive services to adults and children. Programs include a 16-bed acute in-patient unit, Case Management, Day Treatment Program, and Adult Community Clinical Services. The Pocasset Mental Health Center is a Joint Commission certified facility. Applicants must have at least one year of paraprofessional experience in the field of nursing as a licensed practical nurse.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a current and valid license as a practical nurse under the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing.
