State of Massachusetts Associate Judge (Seasonal) in Plainville, Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is seeking to hire a seasonal Associate Judge for the 2024 Racing Season. Under the direction of the Director of Racing, this position is responsible for ensuring the safety and integrity of the race meet. This position will be based at Plainridge Park in Plainville, MA. The anticipated dates of service are April through November 2024. *Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to: * * Supervise the conduct of all racing officials * Review all applications for occupational licenses and make approval/denial decisions * Oversee the opening of entries and the drawing of positions; review eligibility of all entries; review programs for errors and changes; promptly report errors and changes * Observe each race and replay; participate in the review of inquiries or objections; make results official; designate horses for testing * Participate in hearings regarding alleged rule infractions; recommend appropriate sanctions * Respond quickly and appropriately to questions and complaints *Key attributes of the successful candidate * * Makes independent judgments based on articulable reasons * Maintains composure in stressful situations * Maintains the confidentiality of sensitive material * Demonstrates a flexible leadership style by being fair-minded, forward-thinking, competent, and inspiring, and in so doing, meets the needs of a broad range of individuals and situations * Communicates in a clear and consistent manner across all agency lines and with people outside the agency * Contributes actively to a work environment that embraces diversity and brings together the strengths and perspectives of diverse groups * Builds constructive working relationships characterized by a high level of acceptance, integrity, cooperation, and mutual regard * Builds and maintains internal and external customer satisfaction * Earns the trust, respect, and confidence of co-workers and customers, in good times and bad, through honesty, forthrightness, and professionalism * Accepts personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work, and for meeting expectations * Seeks opportunities to resolve problems, achieve goals, or otherwise advance the Commission’s mission *Knowledge/skills required: * * Current level III or higher accreditation through the Racing Officials Accreditation Program * Current licensure as an Associate or Presiding Judge with the United States Trotting Association *Knowledge/skills preferred: * * Experience with relevant office software applications, particularly Microsoft Office Suite * Previous similar experience in a local, state, or federal government agency setting /Salary is hourly and commensurate with experience. / The successful candidate will be required to pass an extensive background check that includes a full credit check, CORI, drug screen, and finger printing. The Massachusetts Gaming Commission is responsible for the implementation of the expanded gaming law (Chapter 194 of the Acts of 2011). Under the law, the Commission is tasked with establishing a regulatory framework for the solicitation, licensing, taxation, and oversight of a maximum of three casino licenses and one slots parlor license in Massachusetts.
