Organization Overview AdLib, Inc. is a non-profit that focuses on empowering people with disabilities to access and manage benefits, services, and resources to live independently in the community. We are a consumer controlled, consumer directed service that assists people with disabilities to achieve a greater level of independence. As a Center for Independent Living we provide the five core services: information and referral, skills training, advocacy (systemic and individual), peer counseling, and transition (from nursing home to community and youth to adulthood). In addition to the core independent living services we operate the MassHealth (Medicaid) funded personal care management program, SSA Representative Payee program, MRC vocational rehabilitation services, and long term care options counseling. AdLib serves all of Berkshire County and our office is conveniently located near public transportation in downtown Pittsfield MA. IL Advocate/Peer Mentor The IL (Independent Living) Advocate/Peer Mentor supports consumer in identifying and working towards goals that support their independence. Work includes teaching consumers how to access benefits and services such as health insurance, housing, social security, and food stamps. The IL Advocate/Peer Mentor utilizes personal and lived experience to empower consumers to become self-advocates and effectively utilize services. This position may provide advocacy for consumers as well as referrals to outside agencies. Essential Functions: Work closely with other staff to effectively utilize other services and resources; regularly interact with consumers; support consumer in developing an annual independent living plans and complete required documentation; understand and be able to explain application and appeals process for benefits (housing, social security, food stamps); entering required documentation correctly and timely; assist consumers in problem solving. This position is full-time 40 hours (1 hour paid lunch daily) and 75% of work takes place in the Pittsfield office or in the community. Services may be provided in the office, remotely (phone or zoom), or in the community. Primary working hours are 9am-5pm M-F.
