Town of Orleans Town Accountant in Orleans, Massachusetts

The Town of Orleans is seeking a skilled and dynamic individual to join our team as the Town Accountant. This is a full-time position (40 hours) that serves as a critical role in the finance team supporting the financial operations of the Town. The position is responsible for managing the Town?s comprehensive accounting records, including general ledger, fixed assets, and long-term debt, while assisting the Finance Director with the budget process and financial reporting. This role reconciles balance sheets, reviews expenditures, and ensures the accuracy of journal entries and monthly financial reports. The individual will coordinate external audits, manage compliance with state and federal reporting requirements, and ensure the accuracy of financial data published on the Town?s website. Qualifications: Education and Experience Bachelor?s degree in accounting or related field, Five to seven years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, of which at least three years are in municipal accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Special Requirements Massachusetts Certified Governmental Accountant (or obtained within first three years) and remains current through tenure. HIPAA Certified within first six months required. Certified Public Accountant desirable. Skills Proficiency in the use of technology, specifically the use of MUNIS accounting software desired.
