State of Massachusetts Seasonal Research Assistant in Northborough, Massachusetts

The Massachusetts Department of Agricultural Resources' MDAR mission is to cultivate a robust and equitable agricultural economy, promote a safe and resilient food system, and preserve a healthy environment for Massachusetts farmers, animals, and consumers. The Massachusetts State Reclamation and Mosquito Control Board (SRB), within the Department of Agricultural Resources, oversees mosquito control in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts including 12 regional programs. The SRB establishes administrative and technical policies, guidelines, and best management practices to ensure mosquito control programs and safe and effective. A cover letter and resume must be submitted as part of the application process and attached “as relevant” to the requisition. CLASSIFICATION: RESEARCH ASSISTANT Research Assistants will be assigned by the Director of Operations and/or Executive Director to the Staff Entomologist, Staff Biologist, and/or Wetland Project Coordinator (or a combination thereof) and are directly responsible to them in addition to the Director of Operations and the Executive Director. Research Assistants receive instruction and direction on research projects, efficacy studies and wetland projects, including but not limited to the following: 1. Will coordinate and/or carry out all research projects. 2. Prepare reports and presentations as directed. 3. Will assist in wetland project as directed. 4. Will perform field inspections in the area of larval and adult mosquito surveillance among the towns in the CMMCP service area. 5. Will assist the Staff Entomologist with the operation of the larval and adult mosquito surveillance program as needed. 6. To assist in any other office or field tasks that may arise. Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds over uneven terrain. Experience with computers including Microsoft Word and Excel. Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License and a good driving record. Research Assistants at CMMCP are contracted, seasonal positions whose daily hours or length of service may be modified at the discretion of the Executive Director but not to exceed 8 hours per day or 40 hours per week. Qualifications: Please see Preferred Qualifications Preferred Qualifications: Previous related experience. Applicant shall be in possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's license. Applicants must have a clean driving record and be willing to furnish a printed copy upon request. Applicant must be willing to submit to a test for illegal drugs or alcohol at any time during employment. Applicant must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds for extended periods of time over rough terrain. Applicant must be able to speak, read and understand the English language in verbal and written form.Experience with computers including Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to read and understand maps and their layout is required. Ability to send and receive instructions over radio and cell phones is required. Ability to coordinate with the public in a professional manner is required.
