City of Northampton School Bus Driver in Northampton, Massachusetts

School Bus Driver DEFINITION Manual work involving the transportation of students to and from schools and activities, as well as the care and maintenance of related vehicles and equipment; all other related work as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Transports students to and from various schools; transports students to and from other programs such as athletic events, field trips and extra-curricular activities. Supervises students on school bus (students ranging in age from kindergarten to high school); maintains order as necessary. Performs a daily safety and security evaluation of school buses and related equipment; informs supervisor of any problems with equipment or vehicles; may contact outside personnel for repair work; may purchase maintenance equipment. Cleans both interior and exterior of vehicles. Assists in evacuation drills at least two times throughout the year. Performs similar or related work as required or as situation dictates. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS License: - MA CDL license required. P(passenger) and S (school bus) endorsements Preferred. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE High school graduation or equivalent; experience in transportation or in working with children desirable; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Ability and Skills Thorough knowledge of the layout of the City of Northampton. Must have a good driving record and skills in driving. Patience in dealing with children is necessary. Ability to interact well with children of all ages, as well as parents, educators, caregivers and others. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Moderate physical effort generally required in driving for extended periods of time; ability to physically assist some students to and from bus may be required. MISC. INFORMATION Hours: Monday-Friday from 6:30 - 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 - 4:30 p.m. 35 hours per week. Band E: Hourly Rate Range: \$22.29 - \$28.62 Full Benefits are covered under the Northampton Association of School Employees (NASE) Custodial Unit Collective Bargaining Agreement. Must have acceptable MA CORI and SAFIS Fingerprint Background Checks. Must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or qualify for medical or religious exemption prior to the start of employment per collective bargaining agreement.
