Job Summary Under the general direction of the Director of Medical Operations, and in collaboration with other health care providers, the Nurse Practitioner is responsible for the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic illness. Prescribes medications, orders testing and applicable treatments, assists in the management of patient\'s overall care. Teaches students how to stay healthy, manage illnesses and make healthy lifestyle choices. Refers students to specialists as needed. Functions independently within the scope of the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and the College?s guidelines and policies. Refers exceptions to the Director of Medical Operations or Director of Pelham Medical Services. This is an academic year position working 39 weeks per year for 21 hours per week. Essential Functions Patient Care (75%) Provides direct care, treatment and medications to patients needing medical care. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates nursing care according to the needs of each patient, based on appropriate standards of practice and relevant policies and procedures. Participates in interdisciplinary care team meetings, refers to other Schacht Center providers, and collaborates with other disciplines at Smith College as needed. Orders diagnostic and surveillance testing and referrals to specialty care as outlined by Health Services and College policies and procedures and best practices. Prescribes medications and controlled substances according to applicable state and federal laws, best practices and Schacht Center College Policy and Procedures. Reviews relevant patient data and keeps necessary documentation, including patient assessments, care, progress notes and any other required charting to maintain complete and accurate medical records. Follows universal precautions when exposed to blood and bodily fluids. Provides appropriate immunizations and participates in immunization clinics as needed. Maintain Timely Clinical Records. (15%) Document assessments, clinical appointments and documentation of other patient follow-up in a manner consistent with the Schacht Center policies and best practices. Review students\' records and files to determine the progress, effectiveness, and appropriateness of treatment services offered. Responds to students\' messages and requests for medication refills as clinically appropriate. Documents follow-up in the electronic health record, with attention to confidentiality as required by state and federal laws. Other (10%) Attend staff meetings and treatment plan meetings as needed. Work effectively as a member of the Medical Services staff and the Schacht Center for Health and Wellness. Attend Student Affairs divisional meetings and collaborate, as appropriate, with campus partners. Provide and attend in-service trainings. Participate in outreach programming. Participates in programs of quality assurance, peer review and continuing education. Attends required educational seminars to maintain licensure. Understands and contributes to the implementation of department and institutional goals for achieving non-discrimination and creating a multicultural environment. Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, skills, education, experience, certifications, licenses) Current RN licensure in the state of Massachusetts. Current APRN licensure as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP-C) in the state of Massachusetts. Current Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration (MSCR) and DEA registration number.
