Smith College Dining Area Manager in Northampton, Massachusetts

NORTHAMPTON Dining Area Manager This is an academic year position working 44 weeks per year. An anticipated start date for this position is early August. Job Summary Responsible for providing overall direction and management of multiple dining operations: supervising, budgeting, planning, organizing, staffing, scheduling, training and evaluating. Directs all aspects of food production ensuring customer satisfaction in assigned operations. The Area Manager is responsible for innovative leadership, providing a climate of growth for staff and for developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with staff and other campus departments. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor\'s degree in related field and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in foodservice management positions or an equivalent combination of education/experience which would provide the required skills, abilities and knowledge to perform the job. Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Skills Excellent customer service and positive attitude. Ability to organize and prioritize work, resolve problems, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Excellent computer skills, social media proficiency and ability to communicate effectively with all campus constituents, staff and students. Ability to be mobile between work area, dining locations and other campus sites. Project management and program development experience. Typical work week is Sunday through Thursday or as needed and to provide supervisory coverage for a minimum of two breakfasts and three dinners a week. Perform on call management duties Sundays or as assigned. Essential Functions Manage assigned dining operations which includes supervision of staff, ensuring all products and services meet or exceed department standards of quality. Respond to employee concerns and resolve conflicts. Oversee payroll, menus and communication of assigned units. Meet with students to discuss guest accommodations as needed. Monitor to ensure that all applicable operations are using the computerized menu management system (CBORD) to maximize efficiencies and adhere to recipes. Enforce accurate menu and signage standards. Responsible for meeting financial goals by reviewing monthly budget summaries. Work with management team to control food and labor expenses. Supervise and monitor proper use of the OneCard access system, ensuring accountability and controls. Assist with marketing and social media efforts for the department to ensure excellent communications and promotion of all dining activities. Meet with college administrators to plan events and Provide dining perspective on campus committees as requested. Develop and maintain standards responsible for ensuring health and safety as directed by local and state health department regulations and college standards. Oversee planning, communication and execution of department events. Responsible for meeting union contractual obligations and to ensure positive working relationships. Work with management team to develop training programs for current employees and assist with onboarding new employees. Ensure unit(s) comply with all department sustainability and corporate social responsibility standards. Identify areas for increased sustainability and reduced waste of, water, energy, food and inorganic materials. Develop and maintain department sanitation and safety standards. Hire, counsel and discipline staff as necessary. Monitor use of sanitation and personal safety equipment including slip resistant shoes, cut gloves, approved hair restraints, uniforms and vinyl gloves. Oversee proper lifting, bending, squatting, hand washing, first aid use and HACCP procedures.
