Amazon Robotics is transforming Amazon’s transportation and fulfillment networks to deliver more products faster to more destinations. We are building the next generation of Fulfillment and Sortation centers by combining robotics, intuitive user driven workflows, hardware devices, optimization algorithms using ML/AI and large-scale software services to sort customer packages by final destination and consolidate them onto trucks for faster delivery. Our software stack includes Java, Kotlin, React and AWS Services. Through technology and innovation, we reduce Associate learning curves and stress while increasing productivity, quality, and safety.
We are seeking a talented and motivated SDM (Software Development Manager) who will be part of the Sortation Vertical focused on next generation sortation products, as well as supporting the existing solutions in the field. The SDM will have the chance to nurture and expand a diverse team of talented engineers while fostering cross-functional collaboration with internal and external customers and stakeholders. The SDM is responsible for guiding the delivery of broad Program initiatives related to Robotic Sortation Workcell software that powers middle-mile buildings in Amazon’s global transportation network.

Key job responsibilities
Building, leading and growing diverse, inclusive and high-performing software engineering teams, including recruiting, mentoring, motivating, promoting and performance management of software engineers.
Driving improvements in software engineering and operational practices.
Work effectively with cross-functional teams including customers, product managers, stakeholders and leaders to ensure the successful delivery of product capabilities.
Timely execution and prioritization of goals for the team and effectively mitigating risks.
Strategic leadership to create product roadmaps, set the vision for the team and collaboratively partner with other stakeholder teams.
Technical leadership including architecture and design discussions for science and engineering problems and technical deep dives to ensure resolution of root causes of complex issues.
Manage the operational support of products at scale to ensure prevention and timely resolution of customer impactful problems.

About the team
We have a talented and innovative team that works on leading edge software that drives human and robotic workflows, UI interfaces, AWS services at middle-mile Sortation centers within the Amazon Transportation Services network. We strive to optimize sortation rates, improve safety and ergonomics and delight our associates, all while operating at Amazon scale.
Basic Qualifications
3+ years of engineering team management experience
7+ years of engineering experience
5+ years of leading development of applications backed by AWS services or using other cloud based technologies and services experience
Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
Experience partnering with product or program management teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
