Position Overview

The Sr Logistics Coord, Produce, will oversee the efficient movement of fresh produce from suppliers and growers to distribution centers. The Sr Logistics Coord, Produce will be responsible for optimizing supply chain processes, efficiently building trucks of a variety of different produce items, coordinating transportation logistics, ensuring compliance with quality standards and regulations, and partnering cross-functionally with Procurement, Operations, and Transportation to meet delivery deadlines and maintain product freshness.

Job Description

• Coordinate with carriers, buyers, shippers, quality control produce inspectors, warehouse personnel, and others in this endeavor. Act as a liaison between third-party carriers and other interested parties on vendor relations. Review distribution center priority lists and resolve and clarify issues surrounding the delivery of priority truckloads. Provide regular and real-time updates on FOB traffic. Notify appropriate parties of delivery issues. Provide and dispatch logistics information to 3rd party carriers in order to expedite the movement of produce.

• Responsible for formulating truck loads within a number of constraints such as loading regions, temperature compatibility, truck capacity, required delivery dates, and other factors.

• Review purchase orders for accuracy of information and determine the appropriate delivery dates. Coordinate produce rejections and settle assessorial charges, including layover and redelivery fees. Resolve overage, shortage, and damage issues. Assist in the settlement of claims. Survey truck loads after the fact to verify that the carriers have met their obligations. This involves investigating light truck loads or missing purchase orders for cause and then assessing the appropriate penalties.

• Fulfill transportation contracts and ensure contract compliance. This includes incorporating the partnership fees, fuel surcharge and all other assessorial fees into the rates. Balance existing contracts with spot market rates to minimize transportation costs. Negotiate with new and existing 3rd party carriers for long and short-haul spot market rates.

• Interprets the guidelines, customs, and rules for the transportation of perishable commodities.

Skills

• Specialized Knowledge : Knowledge of produce transportation industry. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft suite of products.

• Special Skills : Ability to understand and work within all transportation growing regions to include local deliveries. Understand the dynamics of each growing regions including supply and demand, seasonality, produce unique requirements, vendor specific issues, etc., including forces that impact truck availability.
