Summary/Objective The Patient Care Technician must demonstrate familiarity with dialysis procedures and the knowledge, skills and judgement necessary to assume the responsibility of caring for the dialysis patient. This position exercises knowledge of patient rights and ensures an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity and well-being of all patients in a safe, secure environment. Position works under the supervision of a physician or registered nurse experienced or trained in dialysis treatment. Cooperates and works together with all co-workers to plan and complete job duties with applicable supervisory direction, including exercising job role-appropriate judgement. Essential Functions 1. Complies with all American Renal Management (ARM) and Innovative Renal Care (IRC) policies and procedures as well as federal, state, OSHA and other agency regulations applicable to the position. Maintains HIPAA compliance. 2. Ensures ongoing delivery of high-quality care in collaboration with clinic management by adhering to ARM/IRC standards of care, and compliance with federal, state, OSHA and other agency regulations. 3. Promotes positive public relations with patients, their family members, guests and co-workers. Uses tactful and appropriate communications in all work-related interactions. 4. Escalates issues as appropriate with supervisor, co-workers or patients regarding reported complaints, problems and concerns. 5. Operates dialysis machines, glucometers, meters and other equipment related to patient care according to facility policies, procedures and manufacturers? guidelines. 6. Performs dialysis treatments and may administer normal saline as an integral part of the dialysis treatment according to facility policies and procedures. 7. Performs water treatment testing, monitoring and documentation as assigned in accordance with the facility?s technical training policies. 8. Observes patient and documents data pre, during and post-dialysis treatment and reports problems to the nurse in charge in a timely manner. 9. Adheres to the facility?s infection control policies during performance of all job duties. 10. Assists with treatment and emergency complications, CPR, fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security as directed by a licensed nurse. 11. Notifies the appropriate parties responsible for equipment repair and maintenance needs. 12. Participates in the Total Quality Management program activities as directed by the nurse in charge. 13. Completes requirements for in-service training and participates in staff meetings. 14. Assists in maintaining physical environment and cleanliness of the facility. 15. Performs job duties in accordance with all state/licensing requirements. 16. Performs additional duties, within scope of practice, as assigned by nurse in charge or Clinic Manager.
