Edge Compute Operating Environment Architect - Remote US

We are seeking a Lead Architect to oversee the evolution and delivery of and Edge Compute Operating Environment that solves for unique Edge constraints – Zero Trust, Zero IT, Scale, Connectivity, Multi-Cloud, Cost, OEM Readiness, and Digital Transformation.

What you’ll achieve

The Dell Technologies Edge Portfolio team is developing a North Star architecture that enables Dell to win at the edge by providing a system that will manage Edge estates, orchestrate outcomes, and provide a vehicle for Dell to expand its offerings into multiple Edge verticals. Your role will be to drive the architecture and realization of an Edge Compute Endpoint Operating Environment that can manage Edge infrastructure and consolidate applications and runtimes in the form of VM’s and Containers.

As a member of the technical staff of our edge architecture team, you will be responsible for architecting and driving the realization of an embedded Linux based Operating Environment that can meet the unique constraints at the Edge.

You will:

  • Work with Product Management teams to refine the architecture and requirements

  • Work with Solutions Engineering teams to build and validate the architected solutions

  • Work with Engineering Development teams to build out a robust solution

  • Own the Edge Compute Endpoint Operating Environment architecture

  • Direct a team of Cross-Dell Architects and Engineers to oversee its technical direction, roadmap, implementation, partner investments, delivery and quality

  • Responsible for code reviews and resolving technical disputes

Essential Requirements

  • Requires 15+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 12+ years with a Master’s degree; or 8+ years with a PhD; or equivalent experience in a system architect capacity

  • Proven Linux Internals and Operating Environment design, development, and delivery to market.

  • Low level system software design and development experience in the areas of storage, networking, security, scheduling (including RT), systems management, environmentals, provisioning, immutable imaging, upgrades and patching

  • Virtualization integration experience – Kubernetes and Linux based hypervisors

  • Device virtualization, fault containment, memory and CPU management

  • Resource footprint and performance development, profiling, and optimizations for ARM and Intel processors

  • Secure API and system tool development experience

  • C/C++ required

Desirable Requirements

  • Working knowledge in core Dell Technologies hardware/software offerings and the ability to align/integrate/leverage/influence to meet requirements and delivery timeframes

  • The ability to drive partner innovation and investments (e.g. SuSE)

  • Test driven development in a agile environment

  • Ability to scale and mentor others

  • Ability to direct a global team of engineers and architects

  • A member of the Dell Technical Leadership Community
