Northern Berkshire Pediatrics Medical Billing Specialist in North Adams, Massachusetts

The successful candidate will become an integrated member of our Billing team. This individual will be responsible for maintaining patient billing accounts to manage incoming and outgoing payments for medical treatment from patient and insurers. This role includes communicating with patients about their outstanding balance and handling the administrative responsibilities of billing insurance and processing payments. It also includes documenting each step in the billing process and manage patient information in a billing software database, and investigating system errors and pursue information about denied claims to collect payments on a quick timeline. Candidates should have a thorough understanding of the billing process and insurance requirements to best assist and support the continuation of care for our pediatric patients. Billing Specialist responsibilities include (but are not limited to): - Verify patient information ensuring complete and accurate registration, and current insurance and eligibility - Maintain the accuracy of all Behavioral Health Account registrations - Create and submit claims to insurance companies, ensuring accuracy and completeness - Following up on unpaid claims, initiate appeals, and resolve denial instances via Work Ques - Calling insurance companies for updates on claim status or to clarify billing details. - Weekly printing of statements for working collection accounts, follow-up on patient\'s outstanding balances, and making collection calls as necessary - Navigating and maintaining accurate, timely and complete documentation into the EMR and billing software - Answer patient inquiries about bills, set up payment plans, and process and post payments to patient accounts - Assist billing manger with auditing monthly insurance reports for maintaining primary care and billing accuracy - Communicate and collaborate with providers and clinical team on patient claims and billing issues - Daily processing of incoming department mail - Staying updated on healthcare regulations, medical terminology, and coding practices - Cross-train and serve as a back up to other areas in billing such as medical records, claims processing, eligibility, etc. The ideal candidate will possess the following skills: - Excellent computer skills with ability to learn our EMR system - Excellent written and verbal communication skills - Professional and positive attitude with the ability to provide quality care by communicating clearly and effectively with patients, families and caregivers - Team-player with the ability to be flexible and collaborate with others (internally and externally) as well as work independently - Detail oriented, exceptional time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and work under pressure - Strong decision making and problem-solving skills Requirements and Qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent required - 1+ years of prior experience working in the healthcare field as a Billing Specialist or similar role - Ability to handle sensitive medical information and maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA privacy laws - Strong customer service experience and a proven track record in a fast paced, multitasking environment with strong prioritization skills needed - Familiarity with medical terminology, medical records, insurance requirements and regulations Current schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00a - 3:30p.
