Job Title: Food Safety Technician (1st Shift)
Job Description
As a Food Safety Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with food safety and quality standards throughout the production process. You will provide guidance to employees, verify sanitation procedures, and maintain proper documentation and records. Your role is crucial in maintaining a safe and high-quality food production environment.
Responsibilities
Follow the company's Food Safety Plan and report any food safety issues to the supervisor immediately.
Provide guidance to employees on proper food safety and handling practices.
Verify sanitation procedures using the ATP Machine.
Ensure proper documentation and recordkeeping for all food safety and quality activities as required by the food safety plan.
Monitor temperatures of coolers and freezers during the shift.
Verify the proper performance of monitoring equipment such as metal detection and weigh checks with a verification step.
Perform environmental monitoring program (EMP) swabbing as needed.
Conduct allergen swabs.
Calibrate equipment such as scales and thermometers.
Perform sensory evaluations on finished products.
Collect samples of ingredients, work-in-progress (WIP), and finished products as needed for analysis.
Perform monthly glass and brittle plastic audits, and participate in the monthly Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) audit for the facility.
Inspect proper sanitation of areas at pre-operational setup (Pre-op), during production with emphasis at product changeover, and end of shift/production.
Conduct daily quality walkthroughs for each shift and follow up with necessary personnel for corrective actions.
Monitor production records on the floor to ensure they are traceable and completed.
Oversee safe food practices involved in production and the warehouse with a focus on personal hygiene, product storage, and product temperature.
Ensure equipment is properly and safely used, and suitable for safe use.
Work with all associates to maintain a state of inspection readiness at all times.
Monitor production to ensure all ingredients and supplies are properly stored and labeled at all times.
Perform any other duties as required by the Quality Assurance Manager or leadership.
Essential Skills
Experience in food safety and quality assurance.
Knowledge of FDA regulations and food safety standards.
Ability to coordinate and oversee daily food safety functions in the plant.
Proficiency in collecting and maintaining food safety records.
Ability to provide food safety technical services to manufacturing, R&D, Purchasing, and Distribution.
Experience assisting Food Safety Manager, R&D, and Production in product development.
Capability to guide QA technicians as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Ability to communicate effectively with others to ensure proper production flow and avoid line downtime.
Experience in ensuring the quality of mixed products.
Ability to perform job tasks safely and professionally to prevent disruption of the production line.
Knowledge of batch records, food safety, batch record review, food quality, and food science.
Work Environment
The role frequently requires standing, walking, stooping, crouching, and climbing steps. You will need to use your hands and fingers to handle or use objects, tools, or controls, and frequently reach with your hands and arms. Lifting up to 50 pounds is often required, and occasionally, items weighing more than 50 pounds will need assistance. You must have normal to excellent manual dexterity and motor skills, as well as good eye-hand coordination. The work environment is dynamic and requires adherence to safety protocols at all times.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $24.00/hr.
